HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-01-18 Transportation Minutes 4 y City of Tukwila �s p 0 Transportation Committee 190 TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE *TUESDAY MEETING DUE TO HOLIDAY Meeting Minutes January 18, 2011— 5:00 p.m. Conference Room 1 PRESENT Councilmembers: Joan Hernandez, Chair; Joe Duffle and Verna Seal Staff: Bob Giberson, Frank Iriarte, Robin Tischmak, Derek Speck and Kimberly Matej CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. I. PRESENTATIONS No presentations. II. BUSINESS AGENDA A. 2011 Public Works Transportation Issues As information only, staff gave a brief overview on items that are expected to be brought to the Transportation Committee during the next year. Robin reviewed and provided highlights of items included in the informational memo in the Committee agenda packet. One of the highlighted projects includes design improvements for 42n Avenue (curb, gutter, sidewalk, illumination, etc) from Southcenter Boulevard to South 160 Street. Additionally, staff will be reviewing and bringing forward to Committee Red Light Camera Enforcement opportunities. Not noted on the list of items that will come forward to Committee was the annual Transportation Improvement Program which will be reviewed by Committee prior to July 1. INFORMATION ONLY. III. MISCELLANEOUS Per the request of Committee Chair Hernandez, staff provided an update of a citizen inquiry that was submitted in regards to lighting concerns and pedestrian safety on/near 62n Avenue South. Committee Chair Hernandez also inquired about an accident that took place, according to the Seattle Times, on December 25, 2010, where three pedestrians were hit near the Southcenter area. Staff will research the accident report to learn the specifics. Committee Chair Hernandez asked for clarification on a recent traffic signal revision (protected left turn) made on Tukwila Parkway. Staff reported that this change request was initiated by the Department of Transportation who noted increased accidents at the particular location. Today, Committee Chair Hernandez attended the SCATBd meeting at SeaTac City Hall. She briefed the group on the meeting agenda and relative discussions.
