APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition).
No application shall be extended more than once.

The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:

1. Maintain sprinkler coverage per N.F.P.A. 13.
Addition /relocation of walls, closets or partitions may
require relocating and /or adding sprinkler heads.
Sprinkler protection shall be extended to all areas
where required, including all enclosed areas, below
obstructions and under overhangs greater than four
feet wide. (NFPA 13 -4- 4.1.3.2.1)
All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to
existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department
review and approval of drawings prior to installation
or modification. New sprinkler systems and all
modifications to sprinkler systems involving more than
50 heads shall have the written approval of the
W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk Insurers,
Kemper or any other representative designated and /or
recognized by The City of Tukwila, prior to submittal
to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler
work shall commence without approved drawings. (City
Ordinance #1742)
2. No point in a sprinklered building may be more than
200 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel.
(UBC 1003.4)
Exit doors shall swing in the direction of exit travel
when serving any hazardous area or when serving an

occupant load of 50 or more. (UBC 1004.2)
3. Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. Exit
doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted, barred, latched
or otherwise rendered.unusable. All locking devices shall
be of an approved type. (UFC 1207.3)

Obstructions, including storage, shall not be placed
in the required width of an exit, except projections
as permitted by the Building Code. Exits shall not be
obstructed in any manner and shall remain free of any
material or matter where its presence would obstruct
or render the exit hazardous. (UFC 1203)
Exits shall not pass through kitchens, storerooms,
restrooms, closets or spaces used for similar
purposes. (UBC 1003.5)
4. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B:C) dry chemical type. Travel
distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less.
(NFPA 10, 3 - 1.1)
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5
feet above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9)
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit.

Fire extinguishers require monthly and yearly
inspections. They must have a tag or label securely
attached that indicates the month and year that the

inspection was performed and shall identify the
company or person performing the service. (NFPA 10,
4 -3, 4 -4 and 4 -4.3) Every six years, dry chemical and
halon type fire extinguishers shall be emptied and
subjected to the applicable recharge procedures. (NFPA
10, 4 -4.1) If the required monthly and yearly
inspections of the fire extinguisher(s) are not
accomplished or the inspection tag is not completed, a
reputable fire extinguisher service company will be
required to conduct these required surveys. (NFPA
10A -4 -4)
Key box - When access to or within a structure or an area
is unduly difficult because of secured openings or where
immediate access is necessary for life- saving or
fire - fighting purposes, the Chief may require a key box to
be installed in an accessible location. The key box shall
be a type approved by the Chief and shall contain keys to
gain necessary access as required by the Chief. (UFC
902.4)
All electrical work and equipment shall conform strictly to
the standards of The National Electrical.Code. (NFPA 70)
In order to provide you with the fastest police and fire
protection under emergency conditions, please post your
suite, room or apartment number in a conspicuous place near
the main entry door. Numbers shall contrast with their
background. (UFC 901.4.4)
Accumulation of combustible waste material is prohibited
during the demolition phase of this project. Remove and
properly dispose of all waste material prior to the close
of the working day and as often throughout the day as
needed.
This review limited to speculative tenant space only -
special fire permits may be necessary depending on detailed
description of intended use.

Your permit application is in review by Tukwila Building Division. It is also scheduled
to be reviewed by Fire Prevention Bureau, Planning Division, and Public Works
Department. Upon completion of these reviews and approval by the respective
departments your application will be returned to Building Division for final review
coordination and the preparation of the building permit documents.
Prior to routing your application to the listed departments, it will be necessary for you to
provide additional information and /or clarifications to the construction documents to
show compliance with Tukwila Ordinances. The following comments are applicable:
1. An accessible route of travel is not available from the existing handicapped parking
stalls to the entry of the new tenant space. Consequently, it will be necessary to develop
one such stall and loading aisle at the entry to the Cable Distributors space. Show this
required parking stall on the site plan and indicate the required adjacent 5 -foot access
aisle. Show new parking and walkway at front of tenant space (on plans) as it is to be
developed.
. The floor plan provided with this permit application will be the record document for
,,1-tU the certificate of occupancy. Therefore, it will be necessary to provide floor plan with the
�Y proposed uses of all spaces labeled on the plan.

excess of 20 -feet above the existing floor slab.

The proposed new store front glazing is not called out as double glazing and no
thermal insulation is scheduled for the envelope of this tenant space. If this is a definite
�t{' requirement of your tenant improvement design, provide a note (on the plan) which
states: " No new heating or cooling systems to be installed in this tenant space'.
6. All new construction must meet current adopted code requirements. Sheet S -1,
structural notes need to be updated to state that construction shall conform to the 1994
Uniform Building Code. In addition, provide a dimension for the footing on detail 2,
sheet S -1, and specify the type of anchor bolts to be used at the tube steel ledgers of the
canopy. Also indicate if special inspection will be required for bolts selected.

least one water closet. Separate facilities shall be provided for each sex when the number
of employees exceeds four. To show compliance with this code requirement it will be
necessary to provide one of the following: Show one additional toilet room (barrier free)

Distributors" stating that there will be no more than four individuals employed at this
