Both an elevator and a ramp are infeasible for use at this facility. Use of a ramp conflicts with the heavy trucking and service functions in this existing distribution facility. The lift provides access in the rare situations where accessibility is required. The tenant is not retail or public, but warehouse storage for a separate retail operation. Approval of this lift is not precedent setting for other installations or buildings; it is approved for this existing facility due to the heavy trucking and distribution aspects, noting that if any retail existed it would not be approved. Approval is predicated on: 1. Letter from tenant indicating that this is a warehouse facility and not a showroom or retail area for the public. 2. Bell and audible buzzer in office area with signage at office and at button on lift to identify procedures: "Ring buzzer for assistance with lift, and "assistance required at lift." 3. Key will be provided to any employee in the future that might ever work in the office section of the warehouse and require accessibility. Use of a button only at the lift poses security problems with unauthorized use, so a key protects the facility and is required per State elevator standards. Respectfully, Royce • . Berg RAB:scs cc: Jack Link, President, Triland / Boeing Oregon Mesabi Trust RECEIVED CITY OF TUKWILA JUL 1 8 1996 PERMIT CENTER Per review of past tenant improvement projects, there has been some concern with using lifts as a retrofit when reusing, or remodeling warehouse /office space. The last project was Design Imports India off 180th, where a lift, sign, and buzzer announcer were installed. The buzzer and sign (as finalized) at Design Imports India provide the accessibility for any possible visitors, and keys can be provided any tenant individuals who would use the lift on a routine basis. There is not adequate room at this facility, due to the trucking service, to install ramps without damage or loss of truck maneuvering , which would hinder the operation of the tenants in the building. The owner chooses to retrofit this new tenant office in an existing demised warehouse office space with a lift. We have included this lift in this permit package. The innovative Porch -Lift Toe -Guard design is another industry first. Just what you expect from American Stair - Glide. As the lift ascends, walls telescope upward from the stationary sides, shielding the underside of the platform. In areas of the country where codes require this design, the PL -TG is the easy solution to accessibility problems. • As the PL -TG rises, the telescoping Toe -Guard design completely encloses the platform and mechanism. Platform gate, upper and lower landing gates are standard equipment. • The PL -TG is available in three models with lifts of 48, 50 and 84 inches. • The PL -TG installs easily indoors or outdoors and requires virtually no maintenance. //\ 1442WAME Buyline 3537 THE AFFORDABLE LIFT LN A MODULAR FULLY ENCLOSED HOIST\XAY. Underwriter's Laboratories, which now tests to ANSI A17.1 standards for all vertical lifts. has listed the PAL, giving its design and performance the hard - earned UL approval. All metal parts are epoxy powder coated and commercial grade door hardware makes the unit ideal for indoor or outdoor applications in all kinds of weather. The attractive hoistway frame is made of aircraft quality aluminum alloy for strength and durability. It's built to last. • The large, 36" x 60" platform with easily oper- ated controls has room to maneuver wheelchairs of all sizes and space for three standing passengers. • Shatter -proof bronze plexiglas side panels improve the view while letting light in for a brighter, more pleasant interior. • Louvered panels for flow - through ventilation improve passenger comfort and alleviate heat build -up.
