A plans check of the Standard Oil sign you submitted to
this office has revealed the following deficiencies:
1. Your plan shows no "f 'c" for the concrete footing.
You should be reminded that special inspection is
required on all concrete work with "f/cm value in
excess of 2000 pounds. (Uniform Building Code,
Section 305 (a),(b).)
2. Your plans show no provision for the special in-
spection required on all structural welding.
(Uniform Building Code, Section 305 (a),(b).)
Please find enclosed a copy of the Uniform Building Code,
Section 305 which calls for the above special inspections. To
insure that these inspections are properly recorded, this office
is requiring that signed copies of these special inspection
reports be filed with the building permit as a permanent record
of this inspection.
The building permit shall not be issued until such time
that this office is provided with a copy of the letter appoint-
ing a special inspector to this job.'

Gentlemen:
Confirming our conversation today with your Mr. Richards the concrete in .
the pole foundation is designed on the basis of a compressive stress
of 2,000 pounds per square inch.
Also, the only welding to be done in the field for this installation
are two plug welds whose only purpose is to hold in place the bolt
holding plate during the sign erection. The entire structural support
of the sign is based on the bolt strength tightened as you will note
on the plans to 6,000 pounds.
We trust this will clarify the plans.• If you have any further questions
we will be glad to assist you . in -any way.
