City of Tukwila Frank Todd, Mayor CITY of TUKWILA raxpoomflocimputxxsomic TUKWILA, WASHINGTON 98067 Dear John: Please forward the following information along with your report to Mr. Light of Chester Lindsay Architects for requirements of the Pacific Pumpers facility: 1. At least one hose station per City Ordinance #730 is required in each half of the building. 2. Electrical service in the North 1 of the building is almost non- existant. Have the tenant keep in mind that extension cords over 6 feet in length are not allowed and extension cords are not allowed in lieu of permanent wiring. All wiring per NFPA #70 (National Electrical Code, current edition.) 3. Stairway enclosure to the mezzanine must be one -hour construction, if placed as shown on the drawings. 4. The sprinkler system in the mezzanine, under the mezzanine, and in the presently unsprinklered offices in the AMCI facility must be sprinklered to maintain the existing sprinkler density design. 5. Although not required by code, I suggest it would be in the best interest of the tenants if the separation wall were gypsum wallboard rather than plywood. The corridor on the East side of the building must be one - hour construction, with one -hour doors, self closing. 6. In view of the presence of a flammable storage room, I would speculate that the application of flammable finishes within the facility might be anticipated. If this is true, an approved spray booth per Sec. 15.23 of the Fire Prevention Code, 1970 edition, will be required. 7. Fire extinguishers per NFPA #10, installed and marked per OSHA Sec. 1910.157 . will be required as a minimum. Additional extinguishers may be required by this department if, in our judgement, hazards within the facility demand greater protection. cc. TFD File. Nov. 9, 1972 E666 goCvMigins U reau Re. AREA LIMITATIONS AND GENERAL OCCUPANCY REQUIREMENTS Ground elevations should be shown at corners of the building and at changes in ground slope. The ground elevations should be taken at the lowest point between the exterior wall and a point 5 feet out or at the prop- erty line,, if closer. Where the exterior wall is parallel to and within 5 feet of a public sidewalk, alley, or other public way the ground elevations should bo the eleva- tion of the public way. The number of stories in this building cannot be determined until this data is furnished. The total floor area is limited to square feet. Sections 505 and 506. Unobstructed yards of feet should be maintained on sides of the building for area purposes. Section 506,. Provide details to show that -hour area separation walls should comply with Section 505(c). (a) Extend vertically from the foundation to a point 30 inches above the roof. (b) Total width of all openings limited to 25 per cent of the wall length in the story under consideration. (c) All openings protected with fire assem- blies having a fire - resistive rating of one - and - one -half (three) hours. (d) Ducts through area separation walls should be avoided. Section 1302(b). 84 I•or flammable liquids storage see Section 808 and 9Q8 for D Occupancy. 85 The question of opening or fixed windows has arisen from time to time for hospital • I•.atient•rooms. Because UBC allows fixed windows when a building is mechanically ventilated the Fire Marshal believes be- cause UBC takes precedence over NFPA this opening requirement would not be a Fire Marshal requirement, however, it will be prudent to include opening provisions be- cause of the Federal requirements under NFPA parts of life safety code 101. Refer to Section 16 -41 for automatic sprinkler re- quirements and for windowless buildings also to 16 -4111 and the appendix notes. 9 The following rooms should have window areas as specified in Section 1305(a), one -half of which is openable.
