2: No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by the Engineer and the Tukwila Building Division.
3: Electrical permits shall be obtained through the Washington State Division of Labor and Industries and all electrical
work will be inspected by that agency (206- 835 - 1111).
4: All mechanical work shall be under separate permit issued by the City of Tukwila.
5: All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be available at the job site prior to the start of any
construction. These documents are to be maintained and available until final inspection approval is granted.
6: Any new ceiling grid and light fixture installation is required to meet lateral bracing requirements for Seismic Zone 3.
7: Partition walls attached to ceiling grid must be laterally braced if over eight (8) feet in length.
8: All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1997
Edition) as amended, Uniform Mechanical Code (1997 Edition), and Washington State Energy Code (1997 Edition).
9: Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or approval of plans, specifications, and computations shall not be
construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any
other ordinance of the jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this
code shall be valid.
10: Ventilation is required for all new rooms and spaces of new or existing buildings in conformance with the Uniform
Building Code and the Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Quality Code, Chapter 51 -13 WAC.
11: ** *FIRE DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
12: The attached set of plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following
concerns:
13: ** *FIRE EXTINGUISHERS * ** - UFC Article 10 and NFPA 10.
14: Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout.
15: The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000
sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to
any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1)
16: Portable fire extinguishers shall be securely installed on the hanger or in the bracket supplied, placed in cabinets or
wall recesses. The hanger or bracket shall be securely and properly anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with
the manufacturer's instructions. The extinguisher shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more
than 5 feet above the floor and the clearance between the bottom of the extinguisher and the floor shall not be less
than 4 inches.
17: Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be
identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 106.3) (UFC Standard
10 -1)
18: Clear access to fire extinguishers is required at all times. They may not be hidden or obstructed. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.5)
19: * ** EXITS * ** - UFC Article 12
20: No point in a sprinklered building may be more than 250 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel. (UBC
1004.2.5.2.2)
21: Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. Exit doors
shall not be locked, chained, bolted, barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. All locking devices shall be of
an approved type. (UFC 1207.3)
22: Exit hardware and marking shall meet the requirements of the Uniform Fire Code. (UFC 1207 -1212)
23: Aisles leading to required exits shall be provided from all portions of buildings. Aisles located within an accessible
route of travel shall also comply with the Building Code requirements for accessibility. (UFC 1204.1)

and under overhangs greater than four feet wide. (NFPA 13 -4- 5.5.3.1)
27: All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department review and
approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. New sprinkler systems and all modifications to sprinkler
systems involving more than 50 heads shall have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk
Insurers, Kemper or any other representative designated and /or recorgnized by the City of Tukwila, prior to submittal
to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance
#1901)
28: All sprinkler system plans, calculations and the contractors Materials and Test Certificates submitted to the Tukwila
Fire Prevention Bureau must be stamped with the appropriate level of competency seal. (WAC 212 -80)
29: Contact the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests. (UFC 10.503) (City Ordinance
#1900 and #1901)
30: ** *FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS * ** - City Ordinance #1646 - NFPA 72
31: Maintain fire alarm system audible /visual notification. Addition /relocation of walls or partitions may require
relocation and /or addition of audible /visual notification devices.
32: All new fire alarm systems or modifications to existing systems shall have the written approval of the Tukwila Fire

35: All electrical work and equipment shall conform strictly to the standards of The National Electrical Code. (NFPA 70)

37: When walls and ceilings are required to be of fire resistive or noncombustible construction, interior finish materials
shall meet the requirements of Uniform Building Code 803.
38: The maximum flame spread class of finish materials used on interior walls and ceilings shall not exceed that set forth
in Table No. 8 -B of the Uniform Building Code. (UBC 804.1)
39: Accumulation of combustible waste material is prohibited during the demolition phase of this project. Remove and
properly dispose of all waste material prior to the close of the working day and as often throughout the day as needed.
40: Any overlooked hazardous condition and /or violation of the adopted Fire or Building Codes does not imply approval of
such condition or violation.

4 30 6 Mounting Location and Height
Where permanent identification is provided for rooms and spaces,signs shall be
installed on the wall adjacent to the latch side of the door.
Where there is no wall space to the latch side of the door, including at double -
leaf doors, signs shall be placed on the nearest adjacent wall.
Mounting height shell be 60" above the finish floor to the centerline of the sign.
Mounting location for such signage shall be so that a persor may approach
within '" of signoge without encountering protruding objects or standing within

4 30.7 Symbols of Accessibility
