Sarnafil Specification Manual
Code Approvals
I. FACTORY MUTUAL RESEARCH /0 A c
Sarnafil Inc. has one of the most extensive FM Approvals in the single -ply roofing•itidustry.for
roofing membranes qualifying for use in Class 1 Roof Deck Constructions with windstorm
classifications high enough for roof construction designed to perform under some of the most ` `'` v,i`•
severe wind conditions. The Approval covers a wide range of commercially available FM- Approved
roof insulation boards for use on new construction and reroofing applications over existing roofs,
and some Approvals extend to all FM- Approved decks - steel, concrete, and treated lumber decks.
FM Approvals cover both Sarnafil mechanically attached and adhered systems. Sarnafil ballasted
roofing systems have also been accepted by FM, but because of the lack of an accepted test
method, FM evaluates each ballasted roofing project individually to determine its acceptability.
FM testing program
The Factory Mutual Research testing program involves the following procedures:
A. Calorimeter fire test
1/98
B. Burning brand test
C. Simulated wind uplift test
D. Simulated hail damage test
Calorimeter fire test. This test determines the contribution that a roofing system over insulated steel
deck construction would make to spread of combustion within a building. The Sarnafil system tested
did not exceed the maximum heat release of 410 Btus per square foot per minute allowed to achieve
a Class 1 rating.
Burning brand test . This test evaluates the flammability of a roofing membrane when exposed to an
exterior fire source. Sarnafil S327 and G410 roofing membranes have met the Class 1 requirements.
Simulated wind uplift test. This test evaluates the capability of a roofing and deck assembly to resist
uplift forces in pounds per square foot (psf). The tested roof assembly achieves a wind uplift rating categorized
in 15 psf increments, i.e., 1 -60, 1 -75, 1 -90, etc., with no maximum. The rating a system can obtain is
limited only by its strength. Certain Sarnafil roof systems have wind uplift ratings of 1 -150, 1 -165,1 -180.
For higher ratings contact Sarnafil for more information.
Sarnafil mechanically attached and adhered roofing systems have exceeded the 1 -90 wind uplift
rating, recently the highest windstorm classification awarded by Factory Mutual.
This classification means that the system, including insulation, fasteners, and membrane, was tested to
perform under certain conditions that are correlated to building height, location, and wind velocity.
Simulated hail damage test. This test evaluates the capability of a roof membrane to withstand a
hailstorm without being punctured. In this test a 2 inch steel ball is dropped onto test membrane. The
Sarnafil S327 and G410 roofing membranes passed this FM test.
II. UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES, INC.
Sarnafil roofing membranes have passed Underwriters UL -790 test, which rates the fire resistance of roof
covering materials. The test determines the surface burning characteristics of roofing membrane materials
by the ASTM E -108 test method. Test procedures include evaluations for flame spread, intermittent flarne and
burning brand.
Sarnafil roofing systems have achieved Class A classification based on this testing program. Samafil
has extensive UL listing for hourly ratings for various roofing assemblies. -(UL ratings are awarded for
particular test roof assemblies, and are limited by the type of insulation, the combustibility of the deck, and the
slope for the roof.)

S327 Roof Membrane
60 mil (1.5 mm)
CITY OF TRECEIVED 1KWII,A
FEB 1 3 2003
PERMIT CENTER
Overview: S327 is a heat - weldable roof membrane made by the spread- coating process on
Sarnafil's proprietary manufacturing equipment. S327 is formulated for direct expo-
sure to the weather and is produced with an integral polyester scrim reinforcement for
high strength. S327 is the Sarnafil roof membrane used within the Sarnafasr and
Engineered mechanically- attached systems. S327 roof membrane is produced in
two standard widths, 78 - inches (2 meters) and 39 inches (1 meter) and in a variety
of lengths.
Composition: S327 is a high - quality product containing ultraviolet light stabilizers, flame retardant,
biocide and reinforcement. S327 has a unique lacquer coating applied to the top of
the membrane to resist staining from airborne dirt and pollutants. The standard color
of the weathering surface of S327 is off -white and the underside color is dark gray.
Features: The spread- coating process causes S327 to have no built -in stress at time of produc-
tion and to have a fully - encapsulated reinforcement with no risk of delamination or
water- wicking. S327 can be produced in a variety of custom colors to complement
unique buildings. S327 is thicker than many competitive products which can im-
prove weldability and service life. S327 has a unique configuration of the scrim rein=
forcement for high tearing strength, especially important for the Sarriafast seam -at-
tached system.
Packaging: S327 rolls are wrapped in a protective film and strapped to a wood pallet.
Installation: S327 is installed by a Sarnafil Authorized Applicator. S327 is rolled out onto the
insulation board or similar substrate, fastened to the roof deck with Sarnafasteners
and Sarnadiscs or with Sarnafasteners and Sarnabar and heat - welded together by
trained operators using Sarnafil's hot -air welding equipment.
Availability: S327 is available directly from Sarnafil Authorized Applicators. Contact your Sarnafil
Regional Office for further information.

• Samafil ® Specification Manual
Code Approvals
Introduction
I. FACTORY MUTUAL RESEARCH
Samafil Inc. has one of the most extensive FM Approvals in the single -ply roofing industry for
roofing membranes qualifying for use in Class 1 Roof Deck Constructions with windstorm
classifications high enough for roof construction designed to perform under some of the most
severe wind conditions. The Approval covers a wide range of commercially available FM- Approved
roof insulation boards for use on new construction and reroofing applications over existing roofs, 11 (%r
and some Approvals extend to all FM- Approved decks - steel, concrete, and treated lumber decks ./V/)/1,,' 17(ti.,,
FM Approvals cover both Samafil mechanically attached and adhered systems. Samafil ballasts_ d; l
roofing systems have also been accepted by FM, but because of the lack of an accepted test A' ,
method, FM evaluates each ballasted roofing project individually to determine its acceptability. 4.
FM testing program
The Factory Mutual Research testing program involves the following procedures:
A. Calorimeter fire test
B. Burning brand test
C. Simulated wind uplift test
D. Simulated hail damage test Approved
Calorimeter fire test. This test determines the contribution that a roofing system over insulated steel
deck construction would make to spread of combustion within a building. The Samafil system tested
did not exceed the maximum heat release of 410 Btus per square foot per minute allowed to achieve
a Class 1 rating.
Burning brand test . This test evaluates the flammability of a roofing membrane when exposed to an
exterior fire source. Samafir S327 and G410 roofing membranes have met the Class 1 requirements.
Certain Samafil roof systems have wind uplift ratings of 1 -150, 1 -165,1 -180.
For higher ratings contact Samafil for more information.
Samafil mechanically attached and adhered roofing systems have exceeded the 1 -90 wind uplift
rating, recently the highest windstorm classification awarded by Factory Mutual.
The
Samafir S327 and G410 roofing membranes passed this FM test.
II. UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES, INC.
Samafil roofing membranes have passed Underwriters UL -790 test, which rates the fire resistance of roof
covering materials. The test determines the surface burning characteristics of roofing membrane materials
by the ASTM E -108 test method. Test procedures include evaluations for flame spread, intermittent flame; and
burning brand.
Samafir roofing systems have achieved ClassAdassification based on this testing program. Samafil
has extensive UL listing for hourly ratings various=roofiing assemblies_(ULratings are awarded for
particular test roof assemblies, and are limited by the type of insulation, the combustibility of the deck, and the
slope for the roof.)

RE: Permit Application No. D03 -051
301 Strander Boulevard
Dear Permit Holder:
City of Tukwila
Steven M. Mullet, Mayor
Department of Community Development Steve Lancaster, Director
In reviewing our current records the above noted permit has not received a final inspection by the City of Tukwila
Building Division. Per the Uniform Building Code and /or Uniform Mechanical Code, every permit issued by the
Building Official under the provisions of this code shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the
building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced within 180 days from the date of such permit, or if
the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work is
commenced for a period of 180 days.
Based on the above, you are hereby advised to:
• Call the City Of Tukwila Permit Center at (206) 431 -3670 to arrange for the next or final
inspection.
This inspection is intended to determine if substantial work has been accomplished since issuance of the permit
or last inspection; or if the project should be considered abandoned.
If such determination is made, the Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve a one -time
extension up to 180 days. Extension requests must be in writing and provide satisfactory reasons why
circumstances beyond the applicants control have prevented action from being taken.
In the event you do not call for the above inspection or request and receive an extension prior to August 27,
2003, your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and
associated fees.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Stefania Spencer

Store LOD and BS Tech Jerry informed me that the start of the roofing project was "a little ~ w

Store was not reporting any leaks from recent rains associated with roof leaks. They do have w
problems with the walls at the district office where "ever since the earthquake a few years back, J F--
leaks show up at the walls when the rains are hard and directional." w 0
Add a hardboard at the walkway pad at the door -hatch entry. Simply slit open the pad, insert the g
board, and patch the slit. This will prevent insulation crush from repeated traffic, always stepping LL-
off onto the roof at the same place. = d

I showed Frank how future seam samples should be cut and tacked to the patch over the seam
sample. Cut a cross -seam strip 2 inches by 8 inches, then cut that sample in half down to one inch z O

I showed the SBS that I did not like the one to two inch gap between the brick columns and the
walls at the sides of the district entry. Buy backer rod and colored NP -1 caulk. Jamb foam
backer rod into the gap, then caulk over the gap.
I marked seven seam defects on the roof for Frank to patch over. Only one of them was a leaker.
