The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) 13: Portable fire extinguishers shall be securely installed on the hanger or in the bracket supplied, placed in cabinets or wall recesses. The hanger or bracket shall be securely and properly anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The extinguisher shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 feet above the floor and the clearance between the bottom of the extinguisher and the floor shall not be less than 4 inches. 14: Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. For certain special- hazard commodities such as rubber tires, plastics, some flammable liquids, idle pallets, etc., the critical pile height may be as low as 6 feet. (UFC article 2, sec. 209 -H) 23: Where storage height exceeds 15 feet and ceiling sprinklers only are installed, fire protection by one of the following methods is required for steel building columns located within racks: (a) one -hour fire proofing, (b) sidewall sprinklers at the 15 foot elevation of the column, (c) ceiling sprinkler density minimums as determined by the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau.
