This procedure is in addition to any requirements for special inspection. 10: Validity of Permit. The extinguisher shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 feet above the floor and the clearance between the bottom of the extinguisher and the floor shall not be less than 4 inches. 18: Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 106.3) (UFC Standard 10 -1) 19: Clear access to fire extinguishers is required at all times. They may not be hidden or obstructed. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.5) 20: Commercial -type food heat - processing equipment from which grease -laden vapors emanate in normal cooking application shall be protected by an approved automatic extinguishing system. The extinguisher system shall be interconnected to the fuel and current supply so that the fuel or current is automatically shut off to all equipment under the hood, when the system is actuated. (UFC 1006) 21: A wet chemical portable fire extinguisher having a minimum rating of 2A:1B:C:K shall be installed within 30 feet of commercial food heat - processing equipment, as measured along an obstructed path of travel. (UFC 1006.2.7). 22: All new automatic fire- extinguishing systems and all modifications to exsting automatic fire- extinguishing systems shall have fire department review and approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. 23: * ** EXITS * ** - UFC Article 12 24: No point in a sprinklered building may be more than 250 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel. (UBC 1004.2.5.2.2) 25: Exit doors shall swing in the direction of exit travel when serving any hazardous area or when serving an occupant load of 50 or more. (UBC 1003.3.1.5) 26: Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. Exit doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted, barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. All locking devices shall be of an approved type. Gates and barriers in an exit shall not be locked, chained, bolted, barred, latched or otherwise rendered unopenable at times when the building or area served by the exit is occupied. Aisles located within an accessible route of travel shall also comply with the Building Code requirements for accessibility. Fixtures required for exit illumination shall be supplied from separate sources of power for Group I, Division 1.1 and 1.2 occupancies and for all other occupancies where the exiting system serves an occupant load of 100 or more. (UBC 1003.2.9, 1003.2.9.2) 35: Manual operated edge- or surface- mounted flush bolts and surface bolts are prohibited. When exit doors are used in pairs and approved automatic flush bolts are used, the door leaf having the automatic flush bolts shall have no door knob or surface- mounted hardware. The unlatching of any leaf shall not require more than one operation. (UFC 1207.3) 36: * ** SPRINKLER SYSTEMS * ** - UFC ARTICLE 10 - NFPA 13 37: Maintian sprinkler coverage per N.F.P.A. 13. Addition /relocation of walls, closets or partitions may require relocating and /or adding sprinkler heads. 38: Sprinkler protection shall be extended to all areas where required, including all enclosed areas, below obstructions and under overhangs greater than four feet wide. (NFPA 13- 4- 5.5.3.1) 39: All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department review and approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. New sprinkler systems and all modifications to sprinkler systems involving more than 50 heads shall have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk Insurers, Kemper or any other representative designated and /or recorgnized by the City of Tukwila, prior to submittal to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance #1900) 49: Key box - When access to or within a structure or an area is duly difficult because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life- saving or fire- fighting purposes, the Chief may require a key box to be installed in an accessible location.
