Tukwila, WA 98168 Office: (206) 242 -7665 Fax: Same Subject: Tilt -up Wall Cut Out, East Wall of Original Building Dear Mr. Hawes: On this date and at your request I visited your site at the above address. The purpose was to evaluate the new door cut out in the tilt -up concrete wall between the main store area and the warehouse area. The following was noted: The wall is the original east wall of the building built in approximately 1980. In about 1983 or so a new warehouse area was added the the east side, making the original wall an interior wall. The wall is 6 to 8 inch thick tilt -up construction with apparently #4 bars at approximately 12 centers horizontally. Each panel was about 10 feet wide by approximately 18 feet high, capped with a cast in place shear cap. The cut out is 5 feet wide and 8 feet high, and is within about 3 inches of the edge of one panel. This edge is against a cast concrete integral column. With the cut out area removed, three of the original tie -clips are active in the support of the cut panel. Given the geometry and loading of the cut panel, the removal of the area as above will not significantly weaken the structure, and no additional reinforcement of the area is required. It is important to note that further cut outs in any of the walls should be evaluated separately from this situation. COO, FAO qty "46 PERM,t GE."
