1: ** *BUILDING DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS* **
2: No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by the Engineer and the Tukwila Building Division.
3: All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be available at the job site prior to the start of any
construction. These documents are to be maintained and available until final inspection approval is granted.
7: The following conditions apply to re -roof permits:
1. All re- roofing projects will be accomplished in compliance with Appendix Chapter 15 of the Uniform Building Code
(UBC).
2. Inspections: a) New roof coverings shall not be applied without first obtaining a pre- roofing inspection
from the Building Division and written approval from the Building Inspector. The pre- roofing inspection shall pay
particular attention to evidence of accumulation of water. Where extensive ponding of water is apparent, an analysis of
the roof structure for compliance with section 1506, U.B.C., shall be made and corrective measures, such as relocation
of roof drains or scuppers, resloping of the roof or structural changes, shall be accomplished. An inspection covering
the above listed topics prepared by a qualified special inspector, as determined by the Building Official, may be
accepted in lieu of the pre- inspection by the Building Inspector. b) A final inspection and approval shall be obtained
from the Building Division when the re- roofing is complete. As a condition of the final inspection for roofs that
require a fire retardent roof covering under the provisions of Table 15 -A, 1997 U.B.C., the roof installer shall
provide the inspector with a written statement indicating the following (or something similar):
"I have installed a roof membrane assembly, including insulation if applicable, consisting of (manufacturer),
Specification No. , data sheet enclosed, which meets or exceeds the requirements for Class A or Class B roofs.
This roof was installed at (address), under City of Tukwila Building Permit No.
(NOTE: This statement shall include the name of the roofing company that installed the roof, signature of installer and
date.)

Dear Ms. Spencer:
We respectfully request a one -time extension for this permit, as we were unable to
complete the project prior to cold weather setting in last year.
The roof is complete with exception to the cap sheet, which should be set in temperatures
above 60 degrees when feasible. We are now beginning our roofing season and expect to
complete this project within the next couple of weeks, at which point we will be able to
call for final inspection.

Design and Application Considerations detailed in this Manual shall apply in
addition to the following recommendations and specifications.
1 Over entire surface. lay one ply of sheathing paper where applicable. Lap
eacn sheet 2 inches over preceding sheet. Nail sufficiently to hold in place.
2 Starting at the low point of the roof, lay one ply of Base Sheet, lapping each
sneet 2 inches at edges and not less than 6 inches at end laps. Nail along lap
of base ply at intervals not to exceed 9 inches and stagger -nail down center of

fashion: lapping each sheet 20 V1 inches over the preceding sheet: solidly
mopping to the underlying base sheet to provide three plies over the entire

iInterpty moppings of Roofing Asphalt must be applied in a continuous film and
shall consist of approximately 25 pounds per 100 square feet of root area with
a tolerance not to exceed 20% plus or minus. The appropriate asphalt for the

The existing roof system for the above mentioned location is: 1/2" plywood covered with
two plies of fiberglass roofing felt set in roofing asphalt and a mineral surfaced cap sheet
set in roofing asphalt completes the system. Others have patched numerous areas with
various roofing products in attempted repairs. The system is in otherwise good condition
and not currently leaking.
Using GAF Roofing Products we will tear off the existing system to wood deck; sweep
broom clean; nail red rosin and base sheet. We will then solidly set two plies of
fiberglass roofing felt in hot asphalt and cap with a mineral surfaced sheet also set in hot
asphalt.

Building Division. Per the Uniform Building Code and /or Uniform Mechanical Code, every permit issued by the
Building Official under the provisions of this code shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the
building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced within 180 days from the date of such permit, or if
the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work. is
commenced for a period of 180 days.
Based on the above, you are hereby advised to:
• Call the City Of Tukwila Permit Center at (206) 431 -3670 to arrange for the next or final
inspection.

This inspection is intended to determine if substantial work has been accomplished since issuance of the permit
or last inspection; or if the project should be considered abandoned.
If such determination is made, the Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve a one -time

circumstances beyond the applicants control have prevented action from being taken.
In the event you do not call for the above inspection or request and receive an extension prior to May 1, 2004,
your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and
associated fees.
