The permit specified that the new tower would be painted the color of the existing building, which is beige. Boeing would like to paint it a darker color. As this is in the Interurban Special Review District, Boeing requests an administrative decision on a design review issue. I agree that a darker color is more appropriate. The backdrop to the Boeing building is a wooded hillside. A darker color would make the towers "recede" into the background, whereas a beige color would increase their visibility. A dark color would, therefore, be more consistent with the screening requirements of Design Review. A color value similar to that recommended for SAO and Hillside Design Standards (from Munsell chart) would blend relatively well into the background. This is a few shades darker than the building. Based on this, I recommend that Boeing be allowed to paint the cooling towers a darker color than originally specified, with the condition that the color approximately match the range shown on the attached color chips (provided by Boeing). i s1 7 /4 0 O f F h J G Cc)U •-1 PROJECT: j` O) RMWESI I SITE ADDRESS: L9 '- IIIIM v PERMIT NO. t i 'DATE CALLED: 'If - 9 liffa TYPE OF INSPECTION: I ,,,`,/1111j SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: 4414,_,1 `i /I WAI DATE WANTED: REQUESTER: PHONE NO.: M ,, jappim -- •' 5D CALL l- ; 0 f , a ` INSPECTION RESULTS /COMMENTS: J _ _ • ,,,, i... f J - - INSPECTOR: r 44 0 . - .4-0/1_... Engineered truss drawings and calculations shall be on site and available to the building inspector for inspection purposes. Documents shall bear he seal and signature of a Washington State Professional Engineer. Any exposed insulations backing material to have Flame Spread Rating of 25 or less, and material shall bear identification showing the fire performance rating thereof. 15. Subgrade preparation including drainage, excavation, compaction, and fill requirements shall conform strictly with recommendations given in the soils report prior to final inspection (see attached procedure). 16. A statement from the roofing contractor verifying fire retardancy of roof will be required prior to final inspection (see attached procedure). X All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1988 Edition), Uniform Mechanical Code (1988 Edition), Washington State Energy Code (1990 Edition), and Washington State Regulations for Barrier Free Facility (1990 Edition). 18. All food preparation establishments must have King County Health Department sign -off prior to opening or doing any food processing. Arrangements for final Health Department inspection should be made by calling King County Health Department, 296 -4787, at least three working days prior to desired inspection date. On work requiring Health Department approval, it is the contractors responsibility to have a set of plans approved by that agency on the job site. 19. Fire retardant treated wood shall have a flame spread of not over 25. All materials shall bear identification showing the fire performance rating thereof. Such identification shall be issued by an approved agency having a service for inspection at the factory. 20. Notify the City of Tukwila Building Division prior to placing any concrete. This procedure is in addition to any requirements for special inspection. All spray applied fireproofing, as required by U.B.C. Standard No. 43 -8, shall be special inspected. 22. All wood to remain in placed concrete shall be treated wood. 23. All structural masonry shall be special inspected per U.B.C. Section 306 (a) 7. 4 . Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or approval of plans, specifications and computations shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of this code or of any other ordinance of the jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority or violate or cancel the provisions of this code shall be valid. 25. A Certificate of Occupancy will be required for this permit. Sketch the joist(s) on the drawings showing ALL loads to be supported. B. Determine the maximum moment in the joist and derive the UNIFORM load that will produce that moment. C. Determine the maximum end reaction and derive the UNIFORM load that will produce that reaction. D. Standard Load Table, Copyright Steel Joist Institute. Reprinted by permission. The black figures in the following table give the TOTAL safe uniformly distributed load- carrying capacities, in pounds per linear foot, of H Series Steel Joists. The weight of DEAD loads, including the joists, must be deducted to determine the LIVE load carrying capacities of the joists. The load table may be used for parallel chord joists installed to a maximum slot of 1/2 inch per foot. The figures shown In blue in this load table are the LIVE loads per linear foot of joist which will produce an approximate de- flection of 1/360 of the span. LIVE loads which will produce LOADS ABOVE THE COLORED LINES ARE GOVERNED BY SHEAR. Based on a Maximum Allowable Tensile Stress of 30,000 PSltt a deflection of 1/240 of the span may be obtained by multiply- ing the es in blue by 1.5. In no case shall the total load capacity the joists be exceeded.• • Tests on steel joists designed in accordance with the Standard Specifications have demonstrated that the Standard Load Ta- bles are applicable for concentrated top chord loadings (such as are developed in bulb -tee roof construction) when the sum of the equal concentrated top chord loadings does not exceed the allowable uniform loading for the joist type and span and the loads are placed at spacings not exceeding 33" along the top chord.
