TUKWILA CITY COUNCIL
MINUTES
BENEDICTION The swearing in ceremony was concluded by a
benediction delivered by Pastor Lunsford.

CALL TO ORDER Mayor VanDusen called the Regular Meeting of the
Tukwila City Council to order and led the audience in
the Pledge of Allegiance.
INVOCATION Pastor Dave Lunsford delivered the invocation prior to the
swearing in ceremonies.
SWEARING IN CEREMONIES Mayor Gary VanDusen gave a brief farewell speech, stating the reality
of his term at Tukwila has been "concensus, can do, compromise and
what is best for our citizens He enjoyed his time in office because of
the people and issues. The mayor expressed pride in the staff. He
leaves the City solvent with the ability to address the needs of
tomorrow.
Mayor Gary VanDusen administered the Oath of Office to Mayor
elect John W. Rants.
The Honorable Judge Frederick Mendoza administered the Oath of
Office to Councilmembers -elect Dennis Robertson, Joan Hernandez,
and Steve Mullet.
In a brief address to the citizens, Mayor Rants stated that 1992 will be
a year of new goals and opportunities. The state's Growth
Management Act will be fully implemented. He intends to include
Tukwila citizens in all the required processes of the Growth
Management Act through Vision Tukwila. The future will require
stringent controls by the Council and administration. Rants
concluded by saying he looks forward to the events of the next four
years.

OFFICIALS MIKE KENYON, City Attorney; JOHN McFARLAND, City
Administrator;
SPECIAL PRESENTATION Council President Robertson presented plaques of
appreciation to Gary VanDusen and Clarence
Moriwaki.
On behalf of the staff, City Administrator John McFarland presented
a plaque of appreciation to Gary VanDusen for his 16 years of service
to the City.
Vern Meryhew, 4431 So. 148th, commented it had been a pleasure to
work with Gary VanDusen and Clarence Moriwaki. He encouraged
them to stay in touch with the City.
Roger Baker thanked Mayor VanDusen and Councilmember
Moriwaki, commending them for the work they had done.
CONSENT MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY HERNANDEZ, TO
AGENDA APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS SUBMITTED.*
MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, TO
AMEND THE MOTION AND INCLUDE THE VOUCHERS OF
DECEMBER 23 AND DECEMBER 30 FOR APPROVAL.

Election of New Council ELECT ALLAN EKBERG AS THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR
President 1992.*
Councilmember Robertson commented that Ekberg has the skills and
knowledge to make a very good Council president for the next year.
MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY LAWRENCE, THAT THE
NOMINATIONS BE CLOSED. MOTION CARRIED.
*MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
