The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition). We have . based our analysis on the existing roofing, weighing 1.41 pounds per square foot (psf), and the proposed additional roofing at 2.1 psf. You telephoned these weights to our office. Our calculations show that the existing roofs structural system can sustain the additional roof's weight without overstressing the members. The controlling element is the 47.16 roof purlin at 8' -0" o.c., which can accept only an additional dead load weight of 1.8 psf. If we can be of further assistance in this matter, please advise us.
