JOE DUFFIE; JOAN HERNANDEZ; DENNIS ROBERTSON; ALLAN EKBERG, Council President; STEVE LAWRENCE, STEVE MULLET. MOVED BY EKBERG, SECONDED BY DUFFLE, TO MOVE EXECUTIVE SESSION FORWARD AFTER CITIZEN COMMENTS. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY LAWRENCE, SECONDED BY EKBERG, TO ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR ONE HOUR TO DISCUSS A PERSONNEL MATTER. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY LAWRENCE, SECONDED BY HERNANDEZ, TO CONTINUE EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR 30 MINUTES. MOTION CARRIED. Mayor Rants called the meeting back to order at 9:22 p.m. with councilmembers present as listed above. Mayor Rants called for nominations for the vacant seventh council seat. MOVED BY LAWRENCE, SECONDED BY EKBERG, TO NOMINATE CHARLES SIMPSON FOR THE VACANT COUNCIL SEAT.* There were no further nominations. MOVED BY MULLET, SECONDED BY EKBERG, TO CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS. MOTION CARRIED. Explaining the selection process, Councilmember Robertson stated the council looked at the person they felt had the most experience, skill and knowledge in City issues and the workings of Council, and could start working immediately. Mr. Simpson was the only candidate from the nine applicants with four years experience on the Council, and they felt he was the most qualified for the position. *MOTION CARRIED WITH DUFFIE VOTING NO. Charles Simpson thanked the Council and Mayor Rants for the opportunity to serve once again as a councilmember. He suggested that the other candidates be encouraged to serve on boards and commissions. ADJOURNMENT MOVED BY HERNANDEZ, SECONDED BY DUFFLE, THAT 9:35 p.m. THE MEETING BE ADJOURNED. MOTION CARRIED.
