W , 1CBO Evaluation Service, Inc. A subsidiary corporation of the International Conference of Building Officials Filing Category; FASTENERS — Concrete and Masonry Anchors HILTI HVA ADHESIVE CONCRETE ANCHORS HILTI,1NC, 5.100 SO1.TrH 122 EAST AVENUE TULSA. OKLAHOMA 74145 1. Subject: Hilti HVA Adhesive Concrete Anchors, 11. Description: The Milli HV.A concrete anchors are stud•type adhesive anchors (or use in regular - weight concrete having a minimum compressive strength of 2000 psi or structural lightweight concrete having a minimum compressive strength of 3000 psi. The system includes a threaded rod or steel reinforcement dowels and a sealed glass tube, The threaded rod consists of zinc•plated SAE 1018 steel. a nut and washer. The threaded rod is identified as "HAS. ".Thc rod is available In ) is.. Irv, ate., rt..• Ire. and 1. Inch threaded sizes. The steel dowels consist of No. 3, No. 4, No, S. No, 6. No. 7 and NO. 8. Grade 40ler Grade 60 reinforcement bars. !aside the tube of resin there Is ► smaller tube containing quartz sand which has been coated with a hardening agent. The tube of resin identified as "HBP'• contains in unsaturated polyester resin. The tube of resin identified as "HEA" contains a vinylester resin. Installation: The anchor is installed Into a predrilled hole In concrete that has beentkancd. using either a brash and a stream of water, or a brush and compressed au The hole diameter is slightly larger than the tuba of resin. • The depth of the • olc should be sufficient to allow the tube of rosin to be . ' . inserted Qtlsh with the surface of the concrete, The HAS or dowel is then • inserted into an adapter which is attached to a rotary hammer by meansof a connecting shah. The beveled end is placed on top of the tube of resin and the combination of the rotation and the hammering action pulverizes and mixes the Contents of the tube of resin. After the stud is driven to the bottom of the hole. the drill should be immediately stopped, See Figure No, 2 for additional installation details. The chuck may be released and the rotary hammer disengaged. Care should be taken to ensure that the anchor bond is not disturbed for an Initial • :, cure period of ten minutes. The resin must be allowed to curs. before applying a load, at the temperature and for the time periods nosed in Tables Nos. I•A and I -B. The resin and the quartz sand combine to form an adhesive mixture.which bonds the reed to the well of the hole. The HAS rod . must be embedded up to the minimum embedment ring, which is marked on • the rod, • Dimensions and installation criteria arc noted in Table No. U. Finding No. 7 indicates that adhesive anchors cannot be used to resist pullout forces in overhead and wail installations. This restriction is 'metes- - airy solely because the adhesive used with anchors Is temperature sensitive. TABLE NO, I•A iBPTUBE nECO wtlrm[n HLllneluMC T1Y! f01c 1N! NEWS ...NEWS...NEWS...NEWS...NEW:' 12065442854 F'.06 AUGUST 1988 UPDATE ON CODE STATUS OF ALTERNATING -TREAD STAIRS Lapeyre Stair has been working with many code writing bodies to encourage the addition of standards for alternating -tread stairs. Codes addressing or considering proposed changes addressing alternating -tread stairs include: FEDERAL OSHA: In October, 1981, Lapeyre Stair was provided with a letter. allowing the use of alternating -tread stairs in OSHA inspected facilities. Copies .of the letter are available from Lapeyre Stair. MICHIGAN OSHA: Changes addressing alternating -tread stairs have been submitted and are expected to be approved in the near future. Stairs installed in compliance with the proposed change should be approved by MIOSHA inspectors. 'A draft of the proposed MIOSHA codes is available from Lapeyre Stair." CALIFORNIA OSHA: Alternating -tread stairs have been written into California standards, Section 3234 (b) (4), effective April 1985 for use in limited usage /secondary access applications. COAST GUARD: A Coast Guard letter of September 1984 indicates Coast Guard acceptance of the alternating -tread stair, and the areas where alternating -tread stairs are authorized letter are available from Lapeyre Stair. BOCA NATIONAL BUILDING CODE: The 1987 edition of the BOCA National Building Code permits alternating -tread stairs with a minimum projected tread of 8.5" to be used to access any mezzanine of 250 square feet or less, occupied by no more than five people. In addition, alternating -tread stairs may be used in areas where a ladder is acceptable. (Sections 200, 816.11, 816.11.1, 816.11.2, 817.1, 817.1.1, 828.2.5) NORTH CAROLINA CODE In February 1987, the North Carolina Code Committee recommended approval of the use of alternating -tread stairs with a minimum projected tread depth of 8.5" in individual dwelling units if the stair is not a required exitway and as a stairway for an open 250 square foot mezzanine serving not more than 5 occupants. A copy of the proposed code is available upon request. SBCCI STANDARD BUILDING CODE: The 1988 edition of the SBCCI Standard Building Code permits alternating -tread stairs with a minimum projected tread of 8.5" to access 250 square foot mezzanines occupied by no more than five people in certain industrial and residential occupancies. They may also be used for access to and between staff locations in Institutional, Restrained occupancies.
