APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases; a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition).
No application shall be extended more than once.

Per Inspection Record 3 for the above referenced project the
following clarifications are provided:
1. The areas under construction are classified as B -4
occupancies, the existing adjoining areas are either also
classified as B -4 occupancies or corridors, therefore the
wall in question is not required to be of one -hour construction
(neither for fire or for separation) as noted on the plans.
2. Doors number 66 and 73 therefore do not have to be rated as
noted on the plans for door number 66.
In the event that the above clarifications are not sufficient, please
contact me for further clarification /explanation.
Direction has been transmitted to the Contractor to wrap and tape the
glue laminated beam at laboratory /corridor location with 5/8" type
'x' gypsum wallboard.

The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns: (This building needs to provide a
hazardous material inventory statement and a hazardous
materials management plan which accounts for all of the
materials and uses in this building. Because this building
exceeds it's allowable area, the fire department will not
allow the addition of H occupancy areas in this building.
1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10 -1 (3 -1))
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit.

Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on

Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.

Exit signs shall be installed at required exit
doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly
indicate the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a

The following responses are provided as additional and /or clarification of information as requested by the City
of Tukwila:
1. Our research and analysis indicate that the construction type of the building is Type V -N with
sprinklers' throughout as stated on the Title Sheet - GOl - under Code Summary.
2. Note #1 on Sheet 2S112 pertains to the allowable live load for the attic on a permanent basis.
Note #2 on Sheet 1S62 pertains to the allowable live load for the new concrete floor during recast and
curing. The allowable live load for the new concrete floor after recast and curing will be 100 PSF,
matching the original allowable live load for the concrete floor.
3. The occupancy classification (use) of the attic space is mechanical equipment space. The attic space
is, in fact, a mechanical equipment platform and is for mechanical equipment only.
4. The existing allowable area of the building is not being added to with this project because:
a. the occupancy classification (use) of the the attic space is mechanical equipment space and
therefore the attic space is not included the allowable building area calculations,
b. the floor area of the remodel (first floor) currently exists and would have been included in
the original calculations to determine the allowable area of the building.
5. Access to the new and existing attic space (mechanical equipment platform) is /will be by existing
ladders. An existing fire rated roll -up access door provides additional access from the first floor to the
attic space (Door 47, Grid Line H -3).
Telephone contact was made with Ken Nelsen of the City of Tukwila on October 22, 1991. The additional
and /or clarification of information requested was provided over the phone with the understanding that
correspondence would be forthcoming.
