Ron Lamb, School Board Member, called the Joint Meeting to order
and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Rants stated that the City and the region
have changed tremendously in the fifteen years since our last
Comprehensive Plan was created. Tukwila is now a more diverse
community. Within a year and a half, Tukwila expanded to include
twice its previous land area, twice the number of employees located
within the city and three times as many people residing within its
boundaries. The Mayor continued that he would like to come to a
consensus on the City's approach to involving the citizens, the
Planning Commission and the City Council in updating Tukwila's
Comprehensive Plan. He wants to create a knowledgeable,
proactive citizenry and a plan which embodies the northwest's
quality of life and is clear in its direction for our future.
THE AGENDA INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING TOPICS FOR
DISCUSSION:
INFORMATION BRIEFING: The Growth Management Act (GMA);
Progress Report; Existing Comprehensive Plan and Plan Update
Differences.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Council /Commission Work
Plans.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE ACTION ITEMS: Update
Process and Schedule; Citizen Involvement.
