'Ilse transformers and emergency switch gear arc on an exterior pad with an approximately 10' high (sIU wall built at the edge of the pad on three sides. `Elie fourth side of the pad is the existing, building. The (;MU walls die into the existing building wall. Sheets E3.0 and E5.2 in the originally submitted drawings show the transformers and the emergency switchgear located on the pad. The tenets, Vero Corp., wanted to cover the switchgear to keep the rain from landing directly on them. The Contractor has constructed a steel framed canopy that covers only the emergency switchgear. The rest of the area is still open to the weather. The roof is made of steel decking with no roofing material over. It slopes to a gutter and the downspout empties into an existing trench drain around the switchgear. The canopy is about 4' from the C,MU walls and there are no side walls around the switchgear. The height of the structure is only about 8'3" on one end and 8'0" on the other. The only purpose for the canopy is to keep the rain from landing directly on the switchgear. I am also attaching the stamped structural drawings for the canopy. It was designed by CG Engineering and meets all 1997 UBC structural requirements for such a structure. I Iopefully this letter will clear up some of the confusion about what's there and allow Verio to keep their emergency switchgear covered.
