(ECI) has reviewed the use of the Rheo-Mix concrete additive for vapor protection of the building slabs. ECI is familiar with this product and its use on several of our commercial projects. The additive is produced by Cadman, and is intended as a substitute for a conventional vapor barrier. It is our understanding that the Rheo -Mix additive effectively reduces the porosity of the concrete, thereby inhibiting the transmission of water vapor through the slab. In our opinion, use of the Rheo-Mix is a suitable substitute for a conventional plastic sheeting vapor barrier. We trust this information meets your current needs. (ECI) representative observed the prepared subgrade for the Lot 13 slab -on- grade. A twelve (12) inch thick layer of four (4) inch to six (6) inch recycled spalls was placed throughout the interior of the building pad to provide an avenue for groundwater to flow unimpeded into the perimeter drain system. The spalls were subsequently capped with a layer of filter fabric and 1-1/4 inch recycled concrete up to the design subgrade elevation for the slab. In our opinion, the use of the twelve (12) inch thick layer of spalls will maintain the integrity of the drainage layer below the slab.
