The geotechnical evaluation of this site includes a recommendation that continuous wall footings should be at least 16 inches wide for two story structures. It goes on to say that garages or other light structures with loads less than 1 kip /ft may be reduced to a minimum of 12 inches. The plans show 12 -inch wide continuous footings at all locations. Qualify the use of 12- inch wide footings, by analysis, or make all continuous footings 16- inches wide as recommended in the report. 2. The shear wall "Marks" are keyed to framing plans and roof plans that do not show walls. Key the shear wall Marks to the floor plans at the walls intended. 3. The foundation, slab drainage system and the site drainage considerations were designed based upon the findings of Geospectrum Consultants, Inc. We have been informed that the services of Geospectrum Consultants were terminated as of October 12, 2001. It will be necessary to retain a substitute engineer of record before plan review approval. .. uwt,r re. isistvd: a:: Tf w: ti;. Geotechnical Engineers, Co oIogists & Environmental Sckntists In accordance with the request Long Classic Homes, an Earth Consultants, Inc. (ECI) engineer visited the site on April 2, 2002 to observe the subgrade preparation and proposed materials for the slab -on- grade. The structural fill material being used to construct the subgrade for the slab -on -grade consists of 1-1/4 inch crushed recycled concrete. The thickness of the recycled concrete fill varies depending on the grade change within the footprint of the building foundation. Typically, the thickness is ranging between one and three feet. Underlying the crushed recycled concrete, the contractor has placed a twelve (12) inch thick layer of four (4) inch to six (6) inch recycled spalls. In our opinion, the use of the recycled concrete will provide more than adequate structural support for the slab. 1805 - 136th Place N,E., Suite 201, Bellevue, Washington 98005 Bellevue (425) 643 -3780 FAX (425) 746 -0860 Toll Free (888) 739 -6670 • City of Tukwila April 2, 2002 Revised April 3, 2002 In our opinion, the use of the recycled concrete is an acceptable method for preparing the slab subgrade, and can be used in lieu of the free draining gravel indicated on the approved drawings. Given the site conditions observed, the perimeter drain system will serve to intercept groundwater before entering the slab subgrade area. ECI will continue to observe site conditions for each individual lot, and provide modifications to our drainage recommendations, if necessary.
