SPECIFICATIONS Manufacture of the structural glued laminated timber shall conform to the manufacturing.requirements of the American Institute of Timber Construction Standards, AITC -100, and standard Specifications for Structural Glued Laminated Timber AITC -117. Quality control shall be provided in accordance with PS -56 -73 Voluntary Product Standard for Structural Glued Laminated Timber, and the American Institute of Timber Construction Inspection Manual, AITC -200. A certificate of conformance to these requirements shall be furnished and the AITC Quality Mark shall . appear on all laminated members. Laminating Lumber shall be kiln -dried Southern Pine stress graded to meet the requirements of Standard Specifications for Structural Glued Laminated Timber, AITC -177. Lumber combination shall be determined by the design requirements for each component and designated on the fabricator's shop drawings. AITC lumber combination symbols shall be used for this identification. Adhesives shall be waterproof conforming to ASTM D 2559 -70. Roof decking shall consist of 2" nominal, #2 & BTR Southern Yellow Pine specified lengths, single tongue and groove with V -joint face side. Optional Western Red Cedar decking available. Roof shall consist of 225# asphalt shingles with one layer of 15# roofing felt. Shingles colored Cedar Blend. Nails for attaching felt and shingles are included. All hardware for connecting beams to columns is included, plus nails for installation of decking and roofing material. The roof system is designed to withstand 30 PSF live load and 20 PSF wind load. Laminated columns are embedded in footing for stability; no additional bracing required. The fabricator shall furnish complete shop drawings showing the necessary details. Appearance grade shall be AITC Premium. All members shall be individually wrapped for protection. Columns shall be glue laminated Southern Yellow Pine pressure treated. Fascia shall be 2" x 6" tight knotted select grade Western Cedar. The general contractor is responsible for protection of the materials after arrival at destination by rail cars or trucks. If stored temporarily, members should be placed on blocks well off the ground and separated with wood strips so that air can circulate around each member. The general contractor is responsible for protection of the materials after arrival at destination by rail cars, trucks, or any mode of transportation. Carefully unload and handle the laminated members at jobsite to prevent surface marring and damage. If laminated wood is to be stored before erection, place it on blocks well off the ground with individual members separated by strips so that air may circulate. Cover the top and sides of storage piles with moisture - resistant covering. (Do not use clear polyethylene films). When hoisting members into place use padded or non - marring slings, and protect corners with wood blocking.
