The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition). The plaster in the area of the crack had been removed, and the concrete surfaces exposed. A hairline crack approximately four feet long (as described in the earlier memo) was visible from the east face of the wall. There was no crack visible on the west Lace. This cracking can be considered to be cosmetic in nature and not of structural significance. Therefore, we feel that structural reinforcement is not required. Please note that while we do not anticipate any additional cracking to take place in the future, unforeseen conditions could arise which could contribute to further minor cracking. If this should happen at some point in the future, even though it would probably be a cosmetic condition, we recommend that our office be contacted to review the condition. The storage of liquids that have no fire point when tested in accordance with U.F.C. Standard No. 9 -6. 5. The storage of distilled spirits and wines in wooden barrels or casks. Portable tanks exceeding 660 gallons shall comply with Division V. (b) Reactive Materials. Materials which will react with water or other liquids to produce a hazard shall not be stored in the same room with flammable or combustible liquids. (c) Empty Containers. The storage of empty tanks and containers previously used for the storage of flammable or combustible liquids, unless free from explosive vapors, shall be as specified for the storage of flammable liquids. Tanks and containers when emptied shall have the covers or plugs immediately replaced in openings. (d) Storage Near Exits. Class I, I1 or III -A liquids shall not be stored (including stock for sale) near exit doorways, stairways, nor in a location that would impede egress. (c) Quantities Allowed Within Specified Buildings. Storage of Class 1, II or 111 -A liquids in buildings in quantities in excess of those listed in this subsection shall be within insiderliquid storage rooms, liquid storage rooms, liquid storage warehouses, dispensing rooms or mixing rooms constructed as required for Group H, Division 2 Occupancies. Class I -A liquids shall not be stored in basement areas. In addition to these requirements, see requirements for permits, Section 79.103. Amounts permitted shall be stored in approved containers, approved locations, and shall be limited in accordance with the following: 1. In assembly buildings, hotels, apartment houses, one - and two - family dwellings and lodging houses, storage is prohibited. EXCEPTIONS: 1. The newly created corridor from the existing women's restroom to the sales area does not have to comply with the 20 ft maxi- mum length requirement in the UBC for deadend corridors. This is because it is not connected to a corridor system but exits to an open retail area. 2. We discussed store plans for an employee lounge reconfiguration and the addition of a display shop in the area that used to be the restaurant coffee shop. So long as an occupancy load of less than 50 is maintained (based upon 15 sf per occupant) for the lounge, only one exit is required. Ingress and egress to the lounge may be through the exit stair. The employee lounge in its present position will be abandoned. In any case, it cannot exit though a storage area. 3. We would like to include the new employee lounge and display shop as part of the permit being processed. However, in order to not hold up the permit review process, these changes will be submitted for formal review after the permit is issued. I will make notations on the building permit set of drawings at the time they are ready to issue in order to address your previous comments regarding a second means of egress from Room 102 and the existing and proposed uses of spaces in the area of the former coffee shop. 4. We discussed the exit pathway over the loading dock for the second means of egress from Room 102.
