The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10 -1 (3 -1)) 2. Exits shall be illuminated at any time the building is occupied. An emergency system shall automatically provide exit illumination upon failure of the main power supply. (UFC 12.107(a)(b)) (Emergency lighting for stairs) Exit signs shall be installed at required exit doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the direction of egress. Provided the beams and columns that compromise the shelving frame' are securely fastened together with the bolts which are provided, and provided that the base of each shelving column is anchored to the concrete slab with a 1/2" expansion bolt embedded 4" minimum, then in my ' opinion, the shelving is structurally satisfactory for the seismic requirements in the 1988 UBC.
