out the application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts
are available at the Building counter which provide more detailed Information on application and plan submittal
requirements. Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
f:ommunity nAvelopmAnt prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 133 -1851 prior to
submitting application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be
reviewed and is subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or
contractor licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent
to submit this permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of
application shall expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a
period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform
Building Code (current edition). No application shall be extended more than once.

PLANS UNDER TUKWILA BUILDING PERMIT NUMBER
1. No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by
the Architect and the Tukwila Building Division.
2. Plumbing permit shall be obtained through the King
County Health Department and plumbing will be inspected
by that agency, including all gas piping (296- 4732).
3. Electrical permit shall be obtained through the
Washington State Division of Labor and Industries and
all electrical work will be inspected by that agency
(277 - 7272).
4. All mechanical work shall be under separate permit
through the City of Tukwila.
5. All permits, inspection records, and approved plans
shall be posted at the job site prior to the start of
any construction.
6. Partition walls attached to ceiling grid must be
laterally braced if over eight (8) feet in length.
7. Any exposed insulations backing material to have Flame
Spread Rating of 25 or less, and material shall bear
identification showing the fire performance rating
thereof.
8. All construction to be done in conformance with
approved plans and requirements of the Uniform Building
Code (1988 Edition), Uniform Mechanical Code (1988
Edition), Washington State Energy Code (1989 Edition),
and Washington State Regulations for Barrier Free
Facility (1989 Edition).
9. Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or
approval of plans, specifications and computations
shall not be construed to be a permit for , or an
approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of
this code or of any other ordinance of the
jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority or
violate or cancel the provisions of this code shall be
valid.

1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10 -1 (3 -1))
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5

board and untreated red oak lumbar when exposed to fire under similar conditions.
Materials Classified under this category must have a flame spread rating of 200 or less on one
face to be eligible for Classification, unless indicated otherwise under the individual sub.guides. For
a finished product made up of two or more components, the ratings of the Individual components,
or the highest rating of any of the components, may be shown in addition to the finished product
rating. For a finished product which is not symmetrical through its cross•aection, the Classification
may include the specific ratings of each face, or one rating which is representative of each face.
As indicated in individual Classifications, material systems have been aupplernentaliy fire tested in
accordance with the requirements, descriptions and procedures of the indicated national codes and
standards.
Tests for Classification of building materials for Surface Burning Characteristics contemplate Inter)•
or applications only, unless otherwise stated on the individual Classification as having been evaluat-
ed for exterior applications.
Toxicity of the products of combustion have not been investigated as a part of this classification.
It should be recognized that the products of combustion from tiros may be toxic to varying degrees,
inasmuch as they may include smoke (particulate), carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other va-
port and gases, depending upon the conditions of burning and the materials involved, Occupancy
tenability depends upon the conditions of heating or burning end the degree of confinement (venti-
lation) of the products of combustion or decomposition.
Acoustical Materials (BIYR)
Acoustical materials are classified as to surface burning characteristics as shown in the following
Individual classifications. The sound absorbing qualities, light reflectance, washability, toxicity of the
products of combustion. and other properties have not been investigated.
Products identified as finished with a coating have not been investigated as to Increase of surface
burning duo to repainting af ter installation.
The classifications are confined to the materials themselves and to the methods of application In-
dicated and do not pertain to structures in which the materials may be installed.
Acoustical materials to be eligible for classification must have a flame spread rating of 200 or
loss on both faces.
Acoustical tiles are supported for the tests with metal (noncombustible) supports or fasteners or
attached to wood furring strips (combustible).
Some acoustical materiels are provided with facings that may affect the contribution of combing-
bias under fire conditions. This effect is determined by testing the sample with a longitudinal butt
Joint, constructed by slitting the facing of by using a factory or field joint (if applicable).
For the fire resistance rating of these products, see Acoustical Materials under Fire Resistance Rat-
ings in the Fire Resistance Directory.
In some cases, products are classified under the designation FHC 25/50, This denotes that these
products have flame spread values of 25 or less and smoke developed valves of 50 or less,
Authorities having Jurisdiction should be consulted before Installation.
The basic standard used to investigate products In this category is UL 723, "Test for Surface
Burning Characteristics of Building Materials ".
