SUBJECT: Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan
The City of Tukwila has grovm since the last comprehensive park and recreation
planning effort was accomplished in 2001. The updated park, recreation and open space
plan will outline the choices that are available and the means for implementing preferred
actions found to be of most benefit to Tukwila residents.
The objectives in the new plan will address:

Define the setting
Inventory assets
Forecast demand
Identify appropriate roles and responsibilities
Develop the elements of a citywide plan
Determine the costs
Define an implementation program
Determine public opinion

The Tukwila Parks and Recreation Department organized and conducted several public
workshops and forums with the assistance of the Tukwila Parks Commission. Public
surveys were filled out by residents as ,,,ell as a mail-out/phone survey completed by
registered voters.
The new park, recreation and open space plan will be presented to Community Affairs
and Parks Committee for review followed by continued revie,,, at the Council of the
'Whole. It is the goal of the Parks and Recreation Department to continue the discussion
process and officially adopt the plan by June 1st by resolution.
An adopted open space plan is required by the states Recreation and Conservation Office
(fOlmerly known as lAC) to qualify for state and federal grant funding.
