HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOPCAB 2014-02-13 Minutes City Of Tukwila Jim Haggerton, Mayor Police Department Michael Villa, Chief of Police An Accredited Agency COPCAB Minutes February 13, 2014 6:30pm-8:00pm Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Kim Karns, Jerry Thornton, Lynn Churchill, Jun Castillo 1.Minutes from 1/9/14 meeting approved with one spelling correction. 2.Chief’s Update  Developed plans and goals for the Strategic plan. Goal #1 is staffing in 2013 we lost 7 officers, the majority were ones who did not pass field o training or probation. Currently 69 positions are filled, 6 in background, of them are 5 lateral candidates. There are currently two open positions for non-commissioned personnel. View recruiting video, the video can be found on U-tube by searching “Tukwila Police Recruiting Video.” Changes were made in the strategic plan so now it goes back to the consultant, then back to the o City Manager, Mayor and Council for their information. Fax (206) 431-3688 1.Staff development/training  One plan is to send all police leaders of Sgt. and above to police leadership training, a 3 week course, there for a week, then a month off.  Comments from the group about how pleased to see the PD upgrade to on-line reporting.  BEST flyers for Safe Lodging NW distributed. A new web site to help reputable hoteliers stop slavery and trafficking. 4.COPCAB Awards to be presented March 17 (Monday) at 7pm in the City Council Chambers  Award Nominations passed out 5.Good of the Order  Jun – Regarding emergency plans. Just helped inventory 2 of the DERT trailers (disaster emergency relief trailers). There are blankets, food, water and other supplies. Jun will also th be helping with a program called Remote Access Medical October 23-26 offering free medical, dental and vision care for people who need it. This will take place in Seattle in Key Arena. Meeting adjourned at 7:25pm Next meeting will be on Thursday, 3/13/14 from 6:30pm-8:00pm.
