HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark 2014-02-19 Minutes PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES February 19, 2014 5:30pm Tukwila Community Center Call to Order: Parks Committee Chairperson Sean Albert called the meeting to order at 5:34pm. Attendance: Commissioners – Sean Albert, Don Scanlon, Alice Russell, Joanne McManus, Julie Lee, Hassan Abdi Staff – Dave Johnson Introductions: Sean Albert welcomed the new Commissioners (Julie Lee and Hassan Abdi), and all Commissioners introduced themselves. Approval of Minutes: Alice Russell moved to approve the Minutes of the January 15, 2014 meeting. Joanne McManus seconded the motion, and the motion passed unanimously. Business Items A.Project Update – The Commission reviewed the Project Update included in the Agenda Packet. B.Gully Gardens Update – Dave Johnson shared the information with the Commission on the request to rd rename the Pea Patch at Riverton Park to “Gully Gardens”. Council took formal action at the February 3 Council meeting. Next steps are to form a committee to work on the signage. Julie and Joanne volunteered to serve on that committee. C.PROS Plan Update – Dave Johnson shared that the PROS Plan was adopted by City Council at the February th 18 meeting and thanked the Commission for their work. C.Park Rules Update – Dave Johnson explained that staff are working to prepare a draft update of the Park Rules and Regulations. Due to the scope of this project, it’s taking longer than originally anticipated. Staff anticipate having a preliminary draft at an upcoming meeting for the Commission to review. D.Department Update – Dave Johnson shared information with the Commission, including recent trainings that staff have attended, preparation of annual report, success of recent Hot Spot/Hoop Shoot contest, and planning for upcoming Dr. Seuss event. Other: Commission reviewed their 12-month work plan and discussed the upcoming Washington Recreation and Park Association Annual Conference in April. Adjournment: Hassan Abdi moved to adjourn at 6:30pm. The motion was seconded by Julie Lee. The motion passed unanimously. Next Meeting: March 19, 2014
