I WHEREAS, a healthy environment through recycling, waste reduction and
x thoughtful use of resources is the foundation of a good society and is critical to the
future of Tukwila and the world at large; and

WHEREAS, Tukwila can help to preserve environmental integrity and can
help build a healthier society by addressing issues such as transportation i

alternatives, energy usage and waste prevention; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila is a part of the Puget Sound region that prides itself on
the beauty of its landscape and clean waters; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila can help promote positive public land management
era• protecting its resources for the future enjoyment of its citizens; and

5 WHEREAS, Earth Day offers citizens and governments alike an opportunity
to work toward building a healthier and cleaner environment; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do
