HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-01-13 Special Minutes - Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study Phase 1 Work Session City of Tukwila City Council Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study Phase 1 Work Session Location: Council Chamber Date: January 13, 2014 Start: 5:32 p.m. End: 6:44 p.m. PRESENT Elected Officials: Jim Haggerton, Mayor; , Council President; Councilmembers: Joe Duffie, Allan Ekberg, Kate Kruller, Kathy Hougardy, Dennis Robertson, Verna Seal Staff: David Cline, Bob Giberson, Vicky Carlsen, Gail Labanara, Derek Speck, Laurel Humphrey Guests: Dawn Couch, Bob Hutchinson, Dave Fergus, Joan Hernandez, Jerry Thornton, Katrina Doan, Jami Balint The purpose of this Council Work Session was to brief Councilmembers following the completion of Phase 1 of the Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study. The purpose of this study is to plan for the long-term sustainability of City facilities, optimize organizational efficiencies, and improve public safety. Phase 1, now complete, established an assessment of the current facility needs and projected needs through 2035. The project work plan includes briefings to Council after completion of each of the four phases. Consultants from Berk and Rice Fergus Miller gave a presentation that included: Project goals Approach Project work plan Overview of current needs Overview of projected needs Questions and next steps Councilmembers asked clarifying questions regarding the material, with particular attention to population and job growth projections. Projected numbers were based upon Puget Sound Regional Council planning targets and data from City staff on likely growth based upon historic trends. The presenters stressed the importance of ensuring Council support for options advancing or not, and that the scope of this particular study does not advance to the design phase.
