The joint School Board City Council meeting consisted of presentations and discussions on the following
items:
The State of the City and School District Budgets
Opportunities for Collaboration
Methods Used for Communication
City and School District Summer Programs
Tukwila Village Update
The State of the City and School District Budgets
Shawn Hunstock, City of Tukwila Finance Director, gave a PowerPoint financial presentation which included:
historical City finances from 2001-2010; current financial status of the City; projected revenue, expenses and
ending fund balance; and the projected financial impact of joining a regional fire authority.
Linda Sebring, School District Director of Finance and Operations, provided a verbal overview of the School
financial status. Linda reported that although the state is taking funding away the federal government
is backing filling. The level of reductions over the oast two years has not been the freported the State will not
reduce school funds for the current fiscal years; however, programs such as all-day kindergarten and the small
portion of I-728 that is left may be reduced or cut in the biennium. The District is working toward long-term
savings such as being conservative with capital resources and energy conservation and utility reductions where
possible. The District currently has stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,
however, those funds end in 2012.
