Our analysis is based upon existing framing information provided by your firm. The framing consists of 2x6 joists spaced at 2' o.c. max., spanning about 8' -0 ". These joists are supported by 4x 14 purlins spaced at 8' -0" max.. spanning about 20' -0". In tum. the purlins are supported by a 5" x 27" glued laminated beam spanning about 32' -0". Our analysis is based upon unit dimensions and weight you have provided. The new unit weighs 642 pounds. This weight includes the economizer and 2x8 roof curb. For attaching the unit to the 2x8 curb, our analysis shows that #8 bugle headed screws with 1 -1/4" minimum embedment into the curb are required for seismic zone 3. Connect each side of the new unit to the curb with at least four (4) screws with the spacing between screws being no greater than 2' -0" apart. For connecting the 2x8 curb to the roof, our analysis shows that 20d nails used to toe nail the curb to the existing joists, purlin, and glued laminated beam are required for seismic zone 3. The curb should be composed of two 2x8 running perpendicular to the existing 2x6 joists and three 2x8 curbs running parallel to the joists and glued laminated beam, with two of these curbs being directly under the unit and the third being over the existing joists. Each perimeter curb should be toe - nailed to the exiting glued laminated beam or 2x6 joists in 4 locations on each side, with each toe nail connection being composed of two 20d nails. As for the interior 2x8 curb, it should have at least one toe nailed connection attaching the curb to the existing purlin. See attached Plan of Curb on sheet L -4/7 for the above - described layout.
