ATTN: Rob Robinson FROM: Eric Bailey RE: Tails Camera — Mechanical Unit Southcenter Mall COMMENTS: At your request, we have reviewed the existing roof framing for the addition of a mechanical unit to the roof structure. The mechanical unit weight provided to us is 639# for the 5 ton unit. The mechanical unit should be located so that the unit curb bears across (2) joists within 4' -0" of the end of the truss. The contractor should also install a steel frame to support the metal deck below the mechanical unit per the attached sketch. This frame is designed to support the metal deck and not the mechanical unit. A 5" x 6.7 lb channel placed over the decking will provide the needed support for the unit as per mall drawing TTM -5, Detail I. The existing steel joists, beams, and columns have adequate capacity to support the additional load from the mechanical unit.
