operate with blade running horizontally. Dampers an be verdcaly
or horizontally installed with the leading edge of the closed blade
within the waN in accordance with NFPA -90A.
To ensure optimum operation and performance, the damper must
be Installed so It Is round and free from racking. Do not compress
or stretch the damper frame into the duct or opening.

1. Expansion Gap
A square opening In wood or metal stud walls or masonry walk
and floors shall be a minimum of 1" (25) and a maximum of
2 (64) larger than the damper diameter. A round opening in
masonry walls or floors shall be a minimum of 1" (25) and a
maximum of 2112" (64) larger than the damper diameter.
THE RETAINING "CINCH" PLATE MUST OVERLAP THE
OPENING A MINIMUM OF 1/2" (13).
2. Damper Sleeve
The sleeve is integral to the damper and shall be of equal to or
heavier then the gage of the duct as described in NFPA9OA
and as defined by the appropriate SMACNA duct construction
standard.
3. Damper Orlentatlon
The leading edge of the blade In the dosed position mat be
within the plane of the wall. Vertical installation ie illustrated and
horizontal is similar (see General Installation). The damper may
be Installed with up to a 30 degree variance of the axle being
horizontal (see Blade Orientation section).
4. Retaining "Cinch" Plates
DO NOT PLACE CINCH PLATES IN GROOVE
Remove bolt from one plate and work across the sleeve twist-
ing it over the axle. (Important: Cinch mechanism should face
actuator.) Place damper In the wall. Secure remeining plata on
opposite side of wall.
The plates are designed to grab and hold the sleeve while
mounting flush against the wall or floor retaining the damper
securely In the opening. The plates must overlap the opening a
minimum of 1 /2" (13) (see "Cinch" Plate section).
For masonry openings secure the "dnch" plates to the wail/floor
with appropriate length masonry screws. For wood/metal stud
applications secure the plates to wall using #10 sheet metal
screws of appropriate lengths so as to have the major body of
the screws engage wood/metal studs or runners (see General
Installation).
5. DucVBleeve Connections
Round break -away connections must be used. Either a 4" (102)
wide drawband or #10 sheet metal screws spaced equally
around the circumference of the ducts as follows:
• Duct diameters 16" (457) and smaller — 3 screws.
Note: When optional sealing of these Joints is desired, the following
sealants may be applied In accordance with the sealant manufac-
turer's instructions: Hardcast, Inc. - Iron Grip 601, Precision •

INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
To ensure optimum operation snd performance, the damper must be Installed so it is square and Res from racking. Do not compress or
stretch the damper frame Into the duct or opening. Lift or handle the damper using sleeve or frame. Do not Ilft damper using blades or actua-
tors. Each firs/smoke damper should be examined on a regular basis to ensure it Is not rusted or blocked. It is recommended the damper be
operated (the actuator cycled) at least once every 6 montrs, Care should be exercised to ensure that such tests are performed safely and
do not cause system damage.

Dear Permit Holder:
City of Tukwila
Department of Community Development Steve Lancaster, Director
Based on the above, you are hereby advised to:
In reviewing our current records the above noted permit has not received a final inspection by the City of
Tukwila Building Division. Per the Uniform Building Code and /or Uniform Mechanical Code, every permit
issued by the Building Official under the provisions of this code shall expire by limitation and become null
and void if the building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced within 180 days from the date
of such permit, or if the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time
after the work is commenced for a period of 180 days.
• Call the City Of Tukwila Permit Center at (206) 431 -3670 to schedule a
progress or a final inspection
A progress inspection is intended to determine if substantial work has been accomplished since issuance of
the permit or last inspection; or if the project should be considered abandoned.
If such determination is made, the Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve a one -time
extension up to 180 days. Extension requests must be in writing and provide satisfactory reasons why
circumstances beyond the applicant's control have prevented action from being taken.
In the event you do not call for the above inspection or request and receive an extension prior to April 17,
2002, your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and
associated fees.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
