At that time it was clear that "people comfort" HVAC systems were unable to meet the environmental requirements of sophisticated DP equipment. Common atmosphere- related problems included; paper sticking, head crash, and static electricity. In severe situations fluctuating or excessive relative humidity caused electrical and mechanical failures resulting in costly downtime. Data Aire's timely and innovative response to the challenge of eliminating those problems was the beginning of precision process cooling. Today's computers, with their increased speed and capacity, require even more precisely controlled environments. Air, which is at once clean and properly distributed, whose temperature and relative humidity are precisely controlled — 24 hours a day, all year long — is essential! And today's Data Aire systems meet the challenge again, with the most complete line, with more options and accessories, and with a speedy delivery program that won't keep you waiting for air. Available in capacities from 6 thru 30 nominal tons, each unit is factory run - tested and offers an unsurpassed complement of optional equipment. COMPUTER COMFORT Computer rooms require air which is clean and properly distributed, with precisely controlled tempera- tures and humidity. Building or "people comfort" systems simply are not designed to meet these demands. But, Data Aire units easily accomplish these goals with top -rated efficiency, 24 hours -a- day and, in all seasons! Data Aire Systems have been designed to meet the demanding requirements of the most advanced computer room. PEOPLE COMFORT Although building or "people comfort" systems may help to cool your staff, they still fall far short of your computer's comfort needs. And, they're useless for humidity control. Table of Contents General Information 3 Standard Design Features 4 -6 Data Alarm Network 7 Air Cooled Performance Data 8 -9 Water /Glycol Cooled Performance Data 10 -11 DESIGN FEATURES The Data Aire series units are available in 6 through 30 nominal ton capacities in air cooled, water/ glycol cooled, energy saver, and chilled water models. Each unit is a complete environmental control system, factory wired, run tested, and specifically designed to pro- vide temperature, humidity, and dust control for computer room or telecommunications installations. A specially designed compact tubular steel frame allows for a minimum space requirement in your computer room for both upflow and clownflow units while still providing excellent service- ability. All parts are easily acces- sible. A furniture -grade insulated steel cabinet is texture painted to match your computer equipment. The Data Alarm Processor, a microprocessor based control displays temperature and humidity on a 16 character LCD, or optional 80 character, backlit, liquid crystal display (LCD). A comprehensive diagnostic routine is standard. DATA ALARM NETWORK Monitor or control your Data Aire computer room air conditioning remotely with the Data Alarm Network Panel''. It supervises up to 99 units and automatically prevents conflicting operations. It also maintains extensive data base and includes two row, 80 character liquid crystal display and self - contained printer. HIGH PERFORMANCE LOW COST Engineered and built by the people who invented computer room air conditioning, the Data Aire System is truly unique! Its high -tech, furniture look is a clue to its high performance but belies its more than competitive price. The options listed below round out the package but every unit comes with Data Aire's commit- ment to excellence as standard equipment. That commitment began with our first air conditioner and has been tested and proven during more than 30 years of building the industry's finest process cooling equipment. DATA AIRE DELIVERS:: The standard ship cycle is 30 days from date of order. Optional premium orders may be expedited in as little as one week. Side and front panels can be easily opened and removed with quarter -turn fasteners allowing full access to all unit components. These panels are available in a wide range of colors to match your computer equipment. All panels include 1 ", 1 -1/2 lb. insulation for protection and sound attenuation. Data Aire's unique frame design allows for your selection of either downflow or upflow air patterns in the same compact dimensions. 4 A FRAME COIL Computer selected coil design, using interwoven coil surface increases unit efficiency at low loads. Air is drawn through both circuits of the coil at low velocity providing effective surface expo- sure with minimum turbulence. FAN SECTION The 15 inch centrifugal, forward curved, double width, double inlet blower configuration is engineered for quiet, reliable operation. The belt driven variable pitch drive section provides adjustable airflow capability to match the require- ments of the computer center. The draw through design insures even air distribution across the A -frame coil and bypass. It also insures low internal cabinet pressure losses, and static sealing of the filter section. The motor has internal overload protection and is mounted on an adjustable slide base. FILTERS Computer room air cleanliness is enhanced by standard 4 inch deep pleated 30 percent efficient filters (based on ASHRAE 52 -76) which can be easily changed through either end or top of the unit. Upflow units are changed from right hand side. r`yria.:. h.,wi..ui:uL, ; , tki '...:a'Vv.14:4 0.,gar,,,y:tF :Ssta. #7a:xitii* Sx:23;r9ri d. e ELECTRICAL REHEAT Low -watt density finned tubular sheathed coils provide ample capacity to maintain room drybulb conditions during a system call for dehumidification. Low -watt density coils eliminate ionization asso- ciated with open wire electric resistance heating. Three stages of heating are standard. HUMIDIFICATION The steam generator humidifier eliminates air contamination caused by mineral deposits. The pure steam method also eliminates excess humidity. The totally self - contained system includes a quick change, disposable cartridge and an automatic flush cycle. Steam Generator Humidifier COMPRESSORIZED SYSTEMS Two refrigeration circuits include high efficiency, hermetically sealed, heat pump duty compres- sors. These rugged, heavy duty, fully welded compressors have no gaskets or seals, eliminating the possibility of refrigerant or oil leaking into the computer room. Each refrigeration circuit includes built -in compressor overload protection, crankcase heater, filter drier, sightglass, suction line accumulator, adjustable expansion valve, low pressure override timer (air cooled), manual reset high pressure control, and anti -short cycle timer. AIR COOLED SYSTEMS — AIR COOLED REMOTE CONDENSERS — A wide range of sizes of remote mounted air cooled condensers are available from Data Aire in vertical discharge. Fluid coolers are manufactured by Data Aire and are sized to match the heat rejection of the corre- sponding unit. The industrial duty design includes galvanized corro- sion resistant housings, high effi - ciency aluminum finned (optional copper fins available) copper tube coils; coated fan guards; energy efficient, thermally protected motors; surge tank; pump contactor; and fan cycling controls with integral factory wired and tested control panel. Additional options include single or dual centrifugal pumps with or without weatherproof enclosures, automatic pump changeover controls, and expansion tanks. ENERGY SAVER SYSTEMS (optional) include a choice of auxiliary glycol coil and 2 -way modulating valve for free cooling when glycol temperature is low enough or auxiliary chilled water coil and 2- way modulating valve for use with chilled water systems. 5 6 DATA AIRE MONITORING/ CONTROL The heart of the Environmental Control System is the microproces- sor based Data Alarm Processor f" The one row, 16 character liquid crystal display (optional -two row, 80 character backlit LCD) not only monitors your data center's temperature, humidity, airflow, and cleanliness, but also provides component run times, alarm history, and an automatic self -test of the microprocessor on system start-up. Multiple messages will be displayed by automatically scrolling from each message to the next. All of these messages are spelled out in full English language on the liquid crystal display (LCD). Multiple alarms will be displayed sequentially in order of occurrence. OPERATION — Push button control switches allow unit on /off operation; menu selection for programming, operational information, diagnostics, and historical data — a password feature prevents unauthorized access; separate manual override switches are provided for fan motor, cool 1, cool 2, heat 1, and humidification operations. With manual override your Data Aire unit will never be down as a result of a control problem — just activate the appropriate switch and you have the ability to override the controls. Another feature is that all menu programmed information for basic system operation and alarm parameters is stored in a non- volatile EEPROM. All historical information is protected by battery back -up. PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS/ MONITORING —The user friendly MENU SELECTION switch permits step -by -step programming and display of the following functions: • Temperature Set Point (65 ° -85° F, 18.3 ° -29.4° C) • Temperature Sensitivity (±1° to ±5 F, C) • Humidity Set Point (40 -60% RH) • Humidity Sensitivity ( ±1 to ±10% RH) • Temperature Alarm Points • Humidity Alarm Points • Unit Start Time Delay Normal functions are monitored and displayed on the LCD and include, in addition to the above set points, the following: • Current Temperature (Deg "F" /Deg "C ") • Current Humidity (% RH) • Cooling Stages 1, 2 • Heating Stages 1, 2, 3 • Humidification • Dehumidification • Energy Saver Mode (as applicable) • Current percent of capacity and the average percent of capacity for the last hour of operation for compressors, reheat, humidifica- tion, dehumidification, energy saver, and chilled water. ALARMS — Alarm conditions are also monitored on the LCD and are enunciated by an audible alarm. The alarm silence button will quiet the audible alarm but the display will continue to indicate the alarm condition until the problem is corrected. The following alarms are standard: • Compressor High Pressure • High and Low Temperature ,+ Frt'C G fN: Ai:`t3 i., 'V2S'v'7. ✓'tx: Data Alarm Processor Panel • High and Low Humidity • Under the Floor Water Detection • No Airflow • Change Filters • Humidifier Failure • Manual Override • Low Voltage Warning • Power Failure Restart • Compressor Short Cycle • Temperature Sensor Error • Humidity Sensor Error • Firestat Tripped • Local Alarm (programmable) • Maintenance Due The local alarms may be pro- grammed to display any one of the following (optional sensors required): no water flow, or smoke alarm. In addition, incompatable control settings will be identified on the LCD. HISTORICAL DATA — In order to facilitate maintenance and service, component run times for fan motor, compressor operation reheat stages, humidification, dehumidification and energy saver operation can be recalled and displayed on the LCD. The current temperature and humidity, with the minimum and maximum readings for the last 24 hours of operation, can be recalled and displayed. The last ten alarms and hours since occurrence can also be recalled and displayed. The histori- cal data base is maintained by battery back -up should power fail. REMOTE MONITORING/ CONTROL - An optional plug -in board will allow communications with the Data Alarm Networ kTM remote monitoring panel. Zone control and individual unit set point changes made from the remote panel are available with this option. DATA ALARM NETWORK' The optional wall mounted Data Alarm NetworkTM, in conjunction with the unit mounted Data Alarm Processor PanelTM, provides remote control and monitoring of up to 99 Data Aire computer room air conditioning units. DISPLAY - The collected data in the data base memory is communi- cated and displayed at the indi- vidual unit LCD display panel and at the remote mounted Data Alarm Network' panel. Displays include unit number, zone number, opera- tional status, percent of capacity, temperatures and humidity, any alarm conditions, diagnostics, and unit historical data to include the last ten alarms, and component run times. The data is identified on the two row, 80 character LCD sequentially for each unit in the network. AUTOMATIC UNIT LOGS may be programmed to print tabular data for the system at selected intervals. A BUILT -IN PRINTER provides a record of any alarm condition, unit identification and status, and time and date as well as historical data. The printer also prints the tem- perature and humidity for each unit, zone, or for the entire network. GRAPHIC PRINT -OUTS for system, zone or unit temperature and humidity are immediately available as strip charts. SYSTEM ZONE OR UNIT LOAD PROFILES for cooling, energy saver operation, humidification and heating are immediately available as strip charts. The on -line data base contains measurements taken every 3 minutes for the past 48 hours with compiled data available for the last 7 days. Graphic print- outs include time and date over a selected time frame. SET POINT MODIFICATION - Individual unit temperature and humidity set points are capable of being adjusted from the Data Alarm Panel.' SECURITY CODE - A password feature preventing unauthorized access is provided. ZONE CONTROL from the Data Alarm Network panel prevents operational conflicts (fighting) within a zone through true network supervision and distrib- uted processing. Units within a zone are prevented from heating and cooling or humidifying and dehumidifying at Data Alarm Network Panel the same time. The conflicting unit displays heating, humidification or dehumidification exhibited on its LCD. The same message displays on the network LCD. ZONE STANDBY UNIT - Each unit within a zone may be turned on or off or placed in standby. Any unit failure within that zone automati- cally changes a standby unit's status to on as required to main- tain zone control. ZONE STANDBY UNIT ROTATION - Programmable interval to automatically rotate the standby unit or units within a zone. Provides automatic unit standby selection for up to 10 zones. COMMUNICATIONS within the network system are through RS -485 serial ports via 20 gauge twisted pair wire. The network is connected to the first unit and last unit only on a token ring network. Shielded cable is not required. An RS -232 serial port is available for a remote terminal. An optional phone modem may be provided which will automatically place a call to a preprogrammed name and number should an alarm occur. 7 Z 72DB/60WB TOTAL 71.100 105.500 120,700 190.100 227,000 - 94,300 115.500 I 62,400 286.100 349,000 SENSIBLE 64,700 204,800 UJ 256.000 310,000 ce 2 72DB/58.4W ' ;.', ;r. i.;'.),...*.;.":„- .,.,;,.: „. ,-;;;;;Y;',6.8,9,001?yr .;,; :::::!!04;3.op: i',;;...V.7;400,-::,-f l';')-3,39,T),00 6 D .
