The proposed unit is to be located at the same location as the existing unit which is about 24 ft. north of the south wall, and about 30 ft. west of the east wall. The existing unit is set on sleepers and is located above the intersection of glulam beams. The existing roof structure is plywood sheathing above 2x4 purlins spaced at 24 in. on center, spanning to glulam beams at 8 ft. on center. The glulam beams span east -west to glulam girders spanning north - south. We evaluated the existing structure for a new unit weighing 670 lb. Based on the proposed weight and the existing framing it is acceptable to place the unit at the same location as the existing unit under the following conditions: 1. The proposed unit should weigh 670 lb. or less. 2. The proposed unit should be placed at approximately the same location as the existing unit so that the weight is transferred to the east -west spanning glulam beams. 3. The proposed unit should be set on sleepers above the roof, similar to the current unit. The sleeper will transfer most of the load to the existing glulam beam and not to the 2x4 purlins. If the load has to be transferred directly to the 2x4 purlins we would recommend supplementing the framing with an additional 2x4 purlin below the loading point.
