The exhaust fan replacement projects are high priority for King County because reliable exhaust fans are needed to ensure proper air quality for METRO's Transit employees. When King County submitted the exhaust fan replacement permit applications to the City of Tukwila last Fall, the plan was to bid the project in January 2007. Unfortunately, during the final internal design review, King County identified an electrical supply issue at the Fuel/Wash building that needed correction. Power to the existing fans at the Fuel/Wash building is currently supplied by the emergency power system. However, the electrical code in effect today only allows life safety equipment to be supplied by the emergency power system. As a result, the electrical drawings needed to be revised. To do this, additional design work was needed which resulted in approximately three months of delay to the bidding schedule. The electrical design changes are now complete and King County will advertise this project May, the successful contractor will be identified in June and construction will begin in July 2007. As a result of the electrical design changes to satisfy current code requirements and in light of the current bidding and construction schedule, King County respectfully requests a 90 day extension of the permit application timeline.
