Plans

ced the purpose to discuss the 6 -Year Comprehensive
Street Construction Plan.
GARDNER, STERLING, TRAYNOR, DAVIS, HARRIS, JOHANSON.
Councilman Saul arrived at 7:03 P.M.
Steve Hall, Public Works Director, presented maps to
each Council Member and explained area, cost and year
of each project scheduled. A discussion followed on
the funding and scheduling of Interurban Avenue through
F.A.M. and U.A.B. Councilwoman Davis stated this is a
critical project from the standpoint of traffic in the
area. Councilwoman Harris stated the traffic on Klick-
itat Drive and 53rd is also deserving of some control
device. Steve Hall stated that is a State Highway con-
trolled access route and they have determined through a
warrant system that no devices are necessary there.
Mayor Todd opened the Public Hearing for audience com-
ments.
Mr. Rudy Regal asked how old Southcenter Blvd. is. Steve
Hall stated it was reconstructed about 10 years ago. Mr.
Regal stated he did not see a problem on that street,
no excess of traffic and it seems wide enough. Steve
Hall stated there is a big problem between August and
January each year and greater volume is anticipated with
the completion of Trillium. Mr. Regal stated he is con-
cerned about the steep grade on 56th Ave. which makes it
difficult for drivers to see. It is a dangerous situa-
tion. Perhaps a railing could be put up along the hill
side of the street.
Mayor Todd closed the Public Hearing for audience com-
ments.
Councilman Sterling stated he urged if something had to
be put aside for lack of funds, it should be any of the
other projects except the undergrounding projects in
our neighborhoods. Steve Hall stated this Program can
be revised at any time.
Councilman Saul stated there is also a problem on I -5
from McMicken to Interurban Avenue when Longacres is
open.
Councilwoman Harris stated it might be worth looking in-
to to place guardrails along 56th this year. Steve Hall
stated the City will be posting signs cautioning drivers
of the hazard, but there is not enough shoulder along
the bank to hold a guardrail.
Mayor Todd closed the Public Hearing to consider the 6-
Year Comprehensive Street Construction Plan.
Mayor Todd opened the Public Hearing to consider the 6-
Year Urban Arterial Street Construction Plan.
Steve Hall briefly explained the program, stating Pro-
jects #5 and #6 are scheduled for 1975 with first prior-
ity and Projects #1 and #11 are also included in 1975.
CLOSE PUBLIC HEARING Mayor Todd closed the Public Hearing after requesting
i:39 P.M. audience comments and Council discussion.
