Box 1268 Carnation, Washington 98014 Subject : Roof Mounted Mechanical Units Gulf Properties -- Southcenter Dear Tom: As requested I have visited two of the Pacific Gulf Properties buildings in the southcenter area to determine if the reinforcing that has been installed to support the new roof mounted mechanical units is structurally adequate. The roof system at building F Phase 2 is a typical Berkley Roof System. One side of the mechanical unit will be supported directly on top of a main glue-lam member. The other leg of the mechanical unit is being supported by a new 4 x 8 member, which spans 8 feet and connects to the side of an existing 4X14 rafter. The 4 x 8 is attached to the 4 x14 with U46 hangers. 4x6 members have been installed spanning from the main glue -lam member to the 4x8 member to provide additional support for the mechanical unit. The stiffening noted above has been installed beneath two units at building F. The stiffening is in accordance with the recommendations you and 1 spoke of prior to the start of the project. The stiffening is structurally adequate to support the new 770 Ib. mechanical unit . I also visited building 19 of phase 1 of the Pacific Gulf property complex. It is my understanding that a 770 lb. mechanical unit will be installed on the roof of this building. The roof system for this building is identical to the roof of building F, thus the retrofit for building F would be applicable to building 19.
