Notice of Proposed Change in Grant Conditions
DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: May 29, 2014 by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time)
PROJECT INFORMATION
The City of Tukwila purchased 2.16 acres for the Duwamish Gardens habitat site using a
combination of state and local funding sources. As a condition of grant funding, the City was
required to restrict future use of the site to habitat and park use only through a deed restriction
placed on the property. The City is proposing to sell a portion of this property currently under
this deed restriction and acquiring a replacement property and is seeking comment on this
proposal.
The City of Tukwila submitted a Conversion and Replacement application to the Washington
State Recreation and Conservation Office. The application is for the conversion and sale of a
portion of the City's Duwamish Gardens project site that totals approximately 3,819 sq ft. In
exchange for this sale, the City will purchase an adjacent replacement property totaling
approximately 16,800 sq ft and place a deed restriction on it. The proposed property conversion
is part of the City's planned Duwamish Gardens Salmon Habitat Restoration Project. The
project site is located at 11269 East Marginal Way South. The intent of this project is to create
an off channel habitual area for salmon and other fish species. The work will require removal of
sediment, gravel and other materials from the shoreline zone. Work will also include relocating
the riverbank, planting native vegetation, and construction of a walking trail. The project is part
of the City's ongoing efforts to improve the Duwamish /Green River watershed for salmon and
other aquatic species.
Information required with the Conversion Application includes:
• Property Appraisal
• Site Map
