Dear Mike: As you requested we checked the roof framing for the new Roof Top Unit weighing 565 lbs. I had reviewed several other buildings at South Center Corporate Square earlier this year for new roof top units and had taken some notes on the roof framing. X reviewed the notes to verify the purlin size and spacing information that you gave us. The plans that we had for these buildings called out 4x12 purlins at 8' -0" oc framing into 5 -1/8 x 25 -1 /2 glu -lam beams at 16' -0" oc., and 2x4 subpurlins at 16" oc. During my site visit to review the framing I found 4x12 and 4x14 purlins with average spacings of 4'--0" oc at the vicinity of the main roof top unit. I checked a 4x12 purlin (spaced at 48" oc) for the new roof top unit load along with the 4' tributary roof load. The 4x12 purlin can support the new roof top unit by locating it as shown on the attached partial roof framing plan. Please note that you will need to add a 4x6 to support one edge of the roof top unit. Please verify the size and spacing of the purlins to confirm that they are 4x12's at 48" oc.
