Comfort space conditioning for the building is provided by packaged rooftop HVAC units with DX cooling'and gas -fired heating. Gas•heating •is utilized for morning warm -up and as necessary to maintain minimum mixed air temperature setpoint. Space heating is provided by fan powered VAV terminal units with electric reheat coils. There are some relatively small areas not served by the reheat VAV terminal units that use electric resistance heating to maintain winter interior temperature setpoint of 55 °F as follows: First floor - sprinkler valve room, mechanical room, electrical room, Stair No. 2 & 3, and Antenna & Transmitter room; Second floor - none; Third floor - mechanical room. All of the above spaces (except the stairwell) are .norrnally.unoccupied, and electric resistance heating is provided only to, maintain, protection.from . freezing.' There are also a few sp served by shutoff cooling VAV terminal units with'elecfric reheat coils. These units are controlled to provide a constant airflow to the space to maintain proper airflow relationships between supply and exhaust for process or safety considerations. These spaces are the JTIDS #1, JTIDS #2, and Antenna & Transmitter room. 2. The mechanical plans define the type of heating system to be used for the space. For projects without plans, fill in the required information below SIB t -fT.S M2a-kt2e, MECHANICAL SUMMARY (MECH -SUM) PROJECT DESCRIPTION Building 13 -03 is a new office /electronic lab facility. The first floor is a mixture of office and lab support areas, the•second floor is an electronic lab area, and the third floor is office space. The lab areas have electronic/electric equipment which requires dedicated forced air cooling and draw - through exhaust cooling which is direct connected to the equipment. Following Is a description of the various mechanical equipment items serving the building: A. Package rooftop air conditioning and heating units (AC3D7 & AC3E7): These units are variable air volume units and provide general space comfort cooling and heating for the building. Unit AC3D7 serves the, third floor and unit AC3E7. serves, the first and second floor, Cooling is .. provided by a DX cooling coil and condensing section, and heating is provided for morning warmup and mixed air tempering by an indirect gas -fired heat exchanger. The units have variable speed drive supply and return fans, 100% economizer sections, and supply temperature reset. Optimized start/stop, night setback, and morning warmup is controlled via the units' direct digital control (DDC) microprocessor and their connection to the site DDC Central Monitoring and Control System. Outside air, return air, and mixed air dampers are controlled and monitored by the DDC system, and outside air quantity is determined by measurement of supply air and return air quantities. B. Air is distributed to the various building spaces by parallel type fan powered variable volume (VAV) terminal units. Units serving the perimeter spaces have electric reheat coils. For these units, the first stage of heating is provided by the terminal unit fan mixing plenum air with supply air once the primary air has reached minimum setpoint of 30 %; and then, additional heating is provided by staging the electric reheat coils. For Interior zones electric reheat is not provided. Some spaces which have only equipment loads such as elevator machinery rooms and electrical rooms are served by cooling only VAV terminal units. C. Packaged self - contained DX cooling units (FC1 D5, FC2D5, & FC3D5): These units each serve data communication rooms which house electronic euipment. The units discharge the rejected heat from the condensing section to the building plenum space, or in the case of FC3D5, to the exterior of the building. The spaces are considered as process loads. D. Equipment forced air cooling systems (AH1C7A & AH1C7B): These custom variable volume systems provide ducted cooling air directly to electronic racks and miscellaneous lab equipment. The units consist of DX cooling coils and remote located condensing units (CD1C7A & CD1C7B), variable speed drive fans, and 100% economizers. These units serve process Toads only. E. Draw - through equipment cooling systems (EF1E1A & EF1E1B): These equipment exhaust systems are direct connected to electronic equipment and provide equipment cooling by pulling ambient space air through the equipment and exhausting it to the building exterior. These fans serve process loads only. F. First floor electrical room cooling (AH1D7): This unit consists of a constant volume supply fan, DX cooling coil, remote condensing unit (CD1D7), and 100% economizer. Normally, ambient air will be used for cooling unless the room temperature reaches 80 °F, and at that point mechanical cooling will be utilized. This load is considered to be a process load. G. First floor mechanical room ventilation (VF1C7): The wall ventilation fan pulls air into the space through the dampered outside air louver and exhausts space air to the building exterior. H. Mechanical rooms (1st and 3rd floors), first floor electrical room, and antenna /transmitter room: Heating Is provided by electric unit heaters controlled by unit - mounted thermostats, setpoint 50 °F. I. Fire riser sprinkler room (WH1 C6): Freeze protection is provided by an electric wall heater. J. East stairwell cabinet heater (CB1 F5): Heating is provided by a wail mounted electric cabinet heater. K. Toilet room exhaust fan (EFRC6): Toilet room exhaust fan start/stop is controlled by the site CMCS. Lti The Wave Guide.Heat chilled water system: •Ghilled, water is provided fey . . 'process equipment cooling an air- cooled chiller (CH1) and h pumps (PU1E1A & PU1E113). The system is manually started when the lab equipment requires cooling and is a constant volume system. One pump operates and the other is a standby pump. This load is a process Toad. END System Description See Section 1421 for full description of Simple System qualifications.
