Selection Example
The following is an example of an appropriate unit selection baud upon
the procedure described on page 10,
For Cooling.
Assume we have determined that the appropriate cooling load at
the desired dry bulb 80° and wet bulb 64° conditions is as follows:
Total Cooling 21800 BTUH
Sensible Cooling 16500 BTUH
Entering Mr Tcrnp 80° Dry Bulb / 64° Wet Bulb
Similarly, we have also obtained the following design parameters:
Entering Water Tcmp 90 °F
GPM = 4.5 (Based upon a 12 °F rise in temperature)
CFM 700
After making our preliminary selection (HS024), we enter the
tables at design water flow and water temperature and road
Total Cooling and Sensible Cooling capacities:
Total Cooling 22300 BTUH
Sensible Cooling 17200 BTUH
Next, we determine our correction factors based upon the formulas
introduced on page 10.
Corrected Total Cooling o 22300 x .92 x .991s. 20331
Corrected Sensible Cooling ■. 17200 x 1.118 x .898 m 17268
Actual Temperature Rise a rcliec I of Heu °r ReJcc 28845 x .952 12,2°F
12,2 °F
fi t_ GPM: too 4.5 x 500
When we compare the Corrected Total Cooling and Corrected Sensible
Cooling figures with our load requirements stated in Step 1, we discover
that our selection is well within t10% of our actual load requirement.
Futthermore, we see that our Corrected Total Cooling figure is actually
undersized as recommended, when compared to the actual indicated load,

This letter is to inform you of revisions that must be addressed before your application
for development permit can be approved. All revision requests from each department
must be addressed at the same time and reflected on your drawings. The following are
comments from each of the reviewing departments:
1. Provide manufacturers documentation which shows the energy
efficiency ratio for each of the proposed heat pumps, at the proposed
90 degree E.W.T. and list on construction document.
2. The permit application checklist indicates the desire to use U.M.C.
Section 608, exception #2. However, the notes to the heat pump schedule
call for the units to be connected to the fire alarm system and to shut
down in the event of fire. Please clarify which case will be followed and
correct notes if required.
Fire Department: No Revision Comments.
Planning Department: No Revision Comments.
Public Works Department: No Revision Comments.
Contact Bob Benedicto, Sr. Plan Examiner, at
(206) 431 -3676 if you have any questions regarding
the following comments.
