"As part of our ongoing energy cost
containment strategy, the retrofit has
been very successful Nays Bob Pack-

denbooks. The Stamford, Conn. -
based company, a division of Kwarl,
operates some 1,200 book stores na-
tionwide..
Waldenbooks is using the Lightstat
thermostat t'rorn T.tuhtstat. The emits
were installed in all locations where
the retailer maintains its own i1VAC
equipment and is directly billed by
the utility company.
"About half of our stores are in
large regional malls which have cen-
tral control of IIVAC systems," Pack-
nick says, "These stares weren't in-
cluded in the retrofit because
Waldenbooks wouldn't have seen any
savings for energy conservation."

This letter is to inform you of corrections that must be addressed before your
application for development permit can be approved. All correction requests from each
department must be addressed at the same time and reflected on your drawings. I have
enclosed review comments from the Building Division. At this time the Fire
Department, Public Works Department and the Planning Division have no comments
regarding your application for permit.
The City requires that four (4) complete sets of revised plans be resubmitted with the
appropriate revision block.
In order to better expedite your resubmittal a Revision Sheet must accompany every
resubmittal. I have enclosed one for your convenience. Corrections /revisions must be
made in person and will not be accepted through the mail or by a messenger service.

The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000
cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings
shall he equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic
shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the power
source of the air - moving equipment upon detection of smoke
in the main supply -air duct served by such equipment.
Smoke detectors shall be labeled by an approved agency for
air -duct installation and shall be installed in accordance
with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (UMC

H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require
auto - shutdown devices. These devices shall be
separately zoned in the alarm panel and local U.L.
central station supervision is required. (City

Duct smoke detectors shall be capable of being reset
from the alarm panel. (City Ordinance #1742)
Dedicated fire alarm system circuit breaker(s) shall
be equipped with a mechanical lockout device. (NFPA
