BID RESULTS
ISSUE
Short Form Contract with Brike Excavating, LLC, of Renton, Washington, for installation of
the sanitary sewer at 14234 57th Ave. South in the amount of $22,732.40.
BACKGROUND
The sanitary sewer for 57th Ave. South was installed in 1964 under LID No.5. The City
improved 57th Ave. South in 1982 and the contractor informed the City that all existing homes
were connected to the sewer prior to installation of sidewalks and paving of the street. On
April 3, 2007, it was determined that the house at 14234 57th Ave. South was not connected to
the public sewer and a cesspool was found in the backyard. City records listed the property as
connected to the sewer and sewer bills and Metro fees have been paid for at least three years or
more.
The City requested quotes from five Small Works Roster contractors for the installation of the
above side sewer. Four contractors responded with quotes. Gary Harper Construction, Inc.,
submitted the low quote of $9,230.00 plus sales tax including bond and insurance. On May 2,
2007, Mr. Harper requested that his quote be withdrawn. As the contract amount is under
$25,000, no bid bond was required and therefore the City must accept Mr. Harper's request.
The next low quote is from Brike Excavating, LLC, for $20,874.56 plus sales tax including
bond and insurance. Brike's work for the City of Tukwila in the past has been satisfactory.
ANALYSIS
This project was not budgeted in the 2007 CIF, but funds remain in the 2007 I & I project
budget of $30,000 and the $50,000 design funds for the sewer repair at 14438 59th Ave. South.
Design is being completed in-house by City staff.
RECOMMENDATION
Information only as the contract is under $25,000.
