Description of Incident
At the above date and time Tukwila Police Officers were dispatched to a vehicle prowl in
progress in the Southcenter area. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects breaking a car
window of a car in a parking lot, and then seeing the suspects flee the area in a silver sedan.
Officers arrive in the area and locate the suspect vehicle, which was occupied by five males.
Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle; however, the suspect vehicle fled west on
st
Tukwila Parkway and then north on 61 Ave S. The vehicle was fleeing at a high rate of speed,
so officers discontinued the pursuit. The vehicle turned west on Southcenter Blvd. into
oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle in the process. The driver of the struck vehicle was not
injured.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene of the hit and run and entered the on-ramp to I-5 north-
bound, continuing north on I-5 at a high rate of speed. Officers caught up to the suspect vehicle
on I-5 after the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car and it flipped upside-down, coming to
a stop just north of the 599 exit. The five suspects then fled the overturned car.
Seattle Police K-9 responded to the scene and was able to assist officers in locating and
detaining four of the five suspects. Additionally, the K-9 led officers to a firearm that was
recovered from the nearby bushes. The fifth suspect is still outstanding.
In the debris of the suspect vehicle, a silver Impala, Officers located three more handguns. All
of the weapons found were loaded. One of the guns was reported as stolen.
The four suspects were identified and transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries sustained
during the crash of their vehicle.
The incident closed all but one lane of north-bound I-5 for about two hours, reopening at 20:45
hours.
