Dale: .PERMIT :# M92 -0097 TUKWILA BUILDING DIVISION NOTES 1. ALL NEW PENETRATIONS AND PENETRATIONS LEFT FROM REMOVED PVC PIPING SHALL BE FIRE STOPPED WITH "FIRE BARRIER CAULK OR "INTERAM FIRE DAM CAULK" INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS AND LIMITATIONS. 2. ALL AREAS, WHERE FIRE STOPPING HAS BEEN DONE, SHALL BE MAINTAINED OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE TO INSPECTORS. CALL FOR INSPECTION 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. 3. THE ABANDONMENT OF PVC RISERS IN AN EXISTING VERTICAL SHAFT ENCLOSURE IS BASED UPON THE CONDITION THAT THE SHAFT CONSTRUCTION IS OF 2HR FIRE RESISTIVE CONSTRUCTION, AND THAT THIS SHAFT IS NOT BEING USED AS AN AIR HANDLING CONDUIT. IN ADDITION, ALL PENETRATIONS OF THIS SHAFT ARE TO BE SEALED AS PRESCRIBED IN NOTE #1. MEMO TO: FILE # M92 -0097 FROM: RSB DATE: 23 JUN 92 SUBJECT: PHONE CONVERSATION WITH MIKE HENRY, PRES. TRC,INC., DISCUSSED THE INSTALLATION OF THE PARALLEL PIPING SYSTEM AT THE PARKWAY PLAZA BUILDING, AND CONFIRMED THE FOLLOWING: 1. BUILDING IS HIGHLY SECURED BY BOEING, AND THEREFORE TRC WILL BE ACCOMPLISHING THEIR WORK ON SECOND SHIFT. ( 4:00 PM TO 2:00 AM ) EXCEPT FOR THE WORK AT THE LOWER LEVEL WHICH IS NOT SECURED. 2. AREA(S) OF WORK WILL BE LEFT OPEN AND WILL NOT BE CLOSED UNTIL INSPECTED AND APPROVED BY TUKWILA BUILDING DIVISION. 3. ARANGEMENTS WILL BE MADE WITH BOEING TO GET INSPECTORS IN AND TO COMPLETE INSPECTIONS OF THE PREVIOUS DAYS WORK BEFORE THESE AREAS ARE CLOSED OFF. 4. VERTICAL PVC RISERS LOCATED IN SHAFT : CONFIRMED THAT THE SHAFT IS NOT AND HAS NOT BEEN USED AS A AIR HANDLING CHASE. ABANDONING OF PVC PIPE IN THIS SPACE WOULD NOT CREATE A HAZARD PROVIDED THAT ALL PENETRATIONS ARE PROPERLY SEALED WITH THE PROPOSED FIRE STOPPING PRODUCTS. 5. THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE NOTED TO PERMIT CONDITIONS. MEMO TO: File of M92 -0097 FROM: Ken Nelsen DATE: June 18, 1992 SUBJECT: Parkway Plaza Bldg. replacement of PVC pipe with steel. ************************************ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** General information from TRC, Inc. letter dated June 15 and phone conversation with Mike Henry 2:20pm on June 18. 1. All PVC pipe is proposed to be removed throughout the building except in the two existing shafts. These shafts according to Mr. Henry are now only used for the 10" PVC risers, it is believe they where originally to be used as mechanical shafts or plenums until the hydropic heating cooling system was installed. It is TRC's contention that to seal these PVC pipes alone into these shafts would cause no hazard and appropriately protect the entire building, I would agree. Because there is no substantial reason to remove the pipes in the shafts it is more economical and safer to leave them at the present time. 2. The proposed fire stop and /or caulking are standard 3M products and are listed in our ICBO report #NER -243. The only remaining question is, how or what inspection is required for the application of the 3M fire barrier products. TRC, Inc. June 15, 1992 Dear Bob: 946 Industry Drive / Seattle, WA 98188 / (206) 575-0711 Mr. Bob Benedicto Building Department City of Tukwila 6300 Southcenter Boulevard Tukwila, WA 98188 RE: Parkway Plaza Office Building Tukwila, Washington Per our conversation earlier today regarding the re- piping of the hydronic heat pumps system for the above named job, I am including herewith for your review the two composite products we propose to use for completing the fire separation in the building. We proposed to core drill holes through the concrete floors and then install steel pipe. The small space between the outside of the pipe and that space remaining then will be filled with a composite of these two products. This is the same material that was used on the project within the same building last year and was approved by your office. You asked about the existing riser openings. The primary existing PVC riser will be left in the building incased in the existing fire rated shaft. All openings to that shaft will be sealed with appropriate material of a rating to meet the fire code and requirements of the building department. During the final phase of this project the PVC pipe above the ceiling that actually exists in the air plenum is to be replaced with copper and /or steel pipe and all of that PVC material will actually be removed from the building. Upon completion of the total project, Phases I and II, there will be no PVC pipe exposed anywhere in the building that will be in violation of the Uniform Building Code or Fire Code. t regards.
