Failure to follow these Installation Instructions may create a possible fire hazard and will void the warranty. INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS This MAJESTIC decorative gas appliance and its components have been tested and will operate safely when installed in accordance with this Installation Manual. Read all Instructions before starting Installation, then follow these instructions carefully during installation to maximize fireplace benefit and safety. Report to your dealer any parts damaged in shipment. This decorative gas appliance and direct vent system is a highly engineered system, unless you use MAJESTIC components which have been designed for the system, you may create a possible fire hazard. The Majestic warranty will be voided by, and Majestic disclaims any responsibility for, the following actions: • Installation of any damaged fireplace or chimney component. • Modification of the fireplace or direct vent system. • Installation other than as instructed by Majestic. • Improper positioning of the gas logs or the glass door. • Installation and /or use of any component part or accessory not manufactured or approved by Majestic in combination or assembly with Majestic fireplace system, not withstanding any Independent testing laboratory or other party approval of such component part or accessory. • Installation of pipe sections requires that each 5" pipe be sealed with high temperature sealant (600 ° F) and the 8" with a non - combustible sealant. (Not supplied.) ANY SUCH ACTION MAY CREATE A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. Consult your local building codes. In planning the installation for the GAS36DV88 Series, it is necessary to install certain components before the fireplace is completely positioned and installed. These include the direct vent system, gas piping for the fireplace and the electrical wiring. (If the fan option is used.) Before starting the installation of the vent kits, the Installer should read the Fireplace Instructions, Vent Kit Instructions, and Optional Extended Venting Instructions and make sure the proper vent kit has been selected for the installation. To determine whether an Extended Venting Installation is required see Figs. 1 and 2, and Tables 1, 2, and 3. The use of a DVK -01 or DVK -02 Termination is required and determined by the last section of vent used and wall thickness. See Table 1. Table 1. Termination requirement. Figure 1 and Table 2 lists examples of possible venting systems using two (2) 90 elbows. V is listed as minimum vertical dimensions and H is listed as maximum horizontal dimensions. Other combinations of a two (2) 90 elbow system must have at least 1 foot vertical rise for each 6 feet of horizontal run. The maximum vertical and horizontal distances for two (2) 90 elbows as shown in Figure 1 are 20 feet and 24 feet respectively. Vertical dimensions are based on centerline to centerline of pipe. Horizontal dimensions are based on centerline of pipe to end of termination. Fig. 1. Two (2) 90 elbows. ' VENTING WITH TWO (2) 90 ELBOWS NEEDED FOR VERTICAL RISE * Vi(FT.) ** Hi(FT.) Othercombinations of a three (3) 90 elbows system may be used as long as there is 1 foot of vertical rise for each 6 feet of horizontal run. The maximum vertical and horizontal distances for three (3) 90 elbows as shown In Figure 2 are 20 feet. 2 Fig. 2. Three (3) 90 elbows. Table 3. Three (3) 90 elbows. The maximum vertical rise of 20 feet may be used with a horizontal run from 2 feet to 24 feet (two 90 elbows) or 20 feet (three 90 elbows). For all installations, the 5" and 8" elbow must first be attached to the unit in a vertical position with the end pointing straight up. Second, the next appropriate piece must be attached with screws as per following Instructions. EACH CONNECTION MUST BE PROPERLY SEALED. Pipe seams should be down. Use high temperature (600 ° F continuous or better) sealant for connections between 5" diameter vent and non - combustible caustic or high temperature sealant between 8" diameter vent. CAUTION: Total vertical run MUST BE completed before starting horizontal run. Horizontal chimney run must be level. Under no circumstance should combustible materials (including siding) be closer than 3" from the top of the 8" pipe or closer than 1" on the side and bottom. When vinyl siding is going to be used on the exterior wall, a siding shield (DVSS) should be installed using the instruction with the shield. Center the shield over the cap using the four (4) self- tapping 1 /4" screws provided with the shield. Attach the shield to the existing exterior firestop. 1. POSITIONING THE FIREPLACE. Determine the exact position of the fireplace so the direct vent termination will be centered (if possible) between two (2) studs. This will avoid any extra framing. All vent kit pipes should be assembled on the unit after the unit is moved into the final position. See GAS36DV88 Installation and Operation Instructions. 2. CUTTING THE HOLE. After the fireplace has been positioned in its permanent location, the hole through the exterior wall of the house can be cut. This hole needs to be 12" square with its center line determined by the amount of vertical rise and horizontal run of the termination. See Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. When locating the hole it must be noted that the bottom of the cap must be 12" above the ground level, no less than 18" below a combustible projection, and no closer than 12" to any wall running parallel to vent termination. (See Figs. 3 and 6.) Fig. 3. 12" minimum to parallel wall to vent cap. 3. VENT ASSEMBLY. 1. Apply high temperature sealant on the 5" collar on the fireplace. When you compare SuperChimney 2100 MAX; the competition just doesn't stack up. SuperChimney 2100 MAX is one of the best, most advanced, factory- built, insulated chimneys available today. From top to bottom, inside and out, the MAX design re- defines excellence in chimneys. MAX has been tested and listed to withstand flue gas temperatures of 2100 °F and is intended for venting flue gases at a temperature of 1000°F under continuous operating conditions. The basic standard used to investigate SuperChimney 2100 MAX is Underwriters Laboratories Inc., standard UL103HT. This factory-built chimney also conforms to the Standards of the National Fire Protection Association for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents and Solid Fuel Appliances, NFPA 211 and the National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54. The chimney is intended for venting flue gases from gas, liquid and solid -fuel -fired residential type appliances specified in the Chimney Selection Chart of the standard NFPA 211. SuperChimney 2100 is designated "'Type HT" and marked on the chimney parts. Our MAX chimney is intended for installations where required by the local authorities having jurisdiction. MAX is made with a completely new stainless steel. Increased nickel content and the molybdenum compound of this alloy make it significantly more durable and much more resistant to the effects of the products of combustion and environmental elements than other chimneys. AND THIS NEW STAINLESS STEEL IS NOW STANDARD IN THE MAX. The couplers are embossed, not lanced (or cut) as in ordinary factory-built chimneys. This drama- tically reduces potential problems of moisture penetration which, in turn, greatly increases the longevity of the chimney. Another MAX plus. Both couplers and the inner liner in MAX are made from field - proven 300 series steel. Check the competition and compare for yourself. Another MAX plus. The new insulation mix used in MAX dramatically reduces the chemically active ingredients. Our chimney is manufactured using premium parts throughout. Components, such as flashings that are galvanized in an ordinary chimney, are constructed from galvalume in the SuperChimney 2100 MAX. The galvalume coating, which is applied by the continuous hot -dip process, is an alloy consisting of aluminum, zinc and silicon. It was developed in the early 1970's specifically for use in applications requiring heat - resistance and it performs very well where resistance to both heat and corrosion are necessary. Combining the protective characteristics of both aluminum and zinc, galvalume has at least twice the corrosion resistance of galvanized steel at the equivalent coating thickness. And the advantages don't stop there. Galvalume's smooth, fine spangle makes it a more attractive alternative to galvanized steel in unpainted applications. Superpipe 6 is completely Superchimney compatible and can be fitted to any system that receives standard stovepipe. Space Saving - Because of its double wall construction, Superpipe 6 can be installed only 6" from walls or combustible materials rather than the standard 18" for regular black stovepipe. Tested- Superpipe 6 is tested by Warnock Hersey to applicable ULC standards. Safe by Design The 304 stainless steel inner liner retains heat while the outer surface stays cooler. And, because double -wall construction maintains a better heat balance between the stove and chimney, creosote build -up in the chimney system is substantially reduced. In fact, Superpipe 6 runs cooler than any system tested. Designed for Performance The vent openings in Superpipe 6 are designed to recover the maximum heat for super efficiency and comfort. To make it look as good as it works, Superpipe 6 has a scratch resistant, mat black finish designed to withstand 1000°F. Lasts many times longer than conventional stovepipe. Easy to Install The use of telescopic or adjustable lengths eliminates cutting to size and makes it easy to install for amateurs and professionals alike. Telescopic sections adjust from 3' 6" to 5' 6 ". Adjustable sections from 12" to 18 ". Superpipe 6 has it all. Available in 6, 7 and 8" diameters.
