Subject: Parabolt Concrete Anchors. H. Description: General: The Parabolt Concrete Anchor stud bolt and expander ring assembly is made of high - strength zinc - plated steel. The steel has an ultimate tensile strength of 132,000 psi and a minimum yield stress of 100,000 psi. The anchor con - sists of u steel rod' threaded at one end with standard coarse bolt threads and has a parabolic-shaped taper machined at the other end. A stainless steel one -piece clip is formed with a slip fit around the tapered section. When the anchor is tapped into a drilled hole, the clip bears against the sides of the hole and as the nut Is tightened, the clip engages the concrete and is forcibly locked into position. Installation: The Parabolt Concrete Anchors are installed in the following manner: t: Drill a hole of the same diameter as the concrete anchor to a minimum depth of six diameters. • 2.. Tap the concrete anchor into the hole until it is embedded in the concrete for a distance of at least five diameters. 3. Add washers and nut; bring nut to a hand -tight condition. 4. Complete the installation by tightening the nut three complete 360- degree turns. S Itiv- r -5 Al c 0 e. 0 To ■ ©'tcG,2vJ “:4. cc., TAKE SO. 1— PAAA101T ALLOWAPLE SHIM AND TENSION VALUES IN POUNDS" 5. Installation by the above procedure will produce the minimum embedment stipulated in Table No. I. Ill. Evidence Submitted: A test report of shear and pull -out tests in both stone aggregate and lightweight aggregate concrete is submitted. Findings IV. Findings: That the Parabolt Concrete Anchors as described in this report are alternate types of connectors to those specified in the 1979 Uniform Building Code, subject to the following conditions: 1. The allowable shear and pullout values for Parabolt Anchors installed in stone aggregate and lightweight aggregate concrete do not exceed the values set forth in Table No. I. 2. The minimum anchor spacing and end and edge distance re- quirements are as set forth in Table No. I. 3. Allowable loads for anchors subjected to combined shear and tension forces shall be determined by the ratio of the actual shear to the allowable shear plus the ratio of the actual tension to the allowable tension not exceeding 1.00. 4. Anchors shall not be subjected to vibratory or shock loads such as supports for reciprocating engines or crane rails unless their adequacy is determined by tests approved by the local building omcial. This report is subject to re- examination in one year. 'The tabulated shear and tensile values are for anchors installed in concrete having the designated ultimate compressive strength at the time of instal ation. • :The tabulated I values arc for anchors installed a minimum of 12 diameters on center and a minimum edge distance of six diameters for 100 percent anchor efficiency. Spacing and edge distance may be reduced to sit diameters spacing and three diameters edge distance, provided the values are reduced 50 percent. Linear interpolation may be used for intermediate spacings and edge margins. • rrhese tension values arc applicable only w hen the anchors are installed with special Inspection as set forth in Section 306 of the code. 'These tension values are applicable when the anchors are installed without special inspection as set forth in Section 306 of the code. sThe allowable loads may not be increased for duration of loading such as for wind or seismic loads. ;1!
