Our comments follow. Structural 1. Provide issued for construction drawing for final review. 2. Indicate pile reinforcing on drawings. 3. Check 36" deep pile cap for additional stresses resulting from pile load sharing indicated in calculations Vol. III, page 7 of Strudle output. 4. On drawings, refererence the soils report for pile length and other installation requirements. Note that pile installation shall be inspected by a representative of the geotechnical engineer. Refer to soils report for subgrade preparation below slabs and footings. Refer to actual soils report used for design assumptions. 5. On drawings, note that metal deck shop drawings showing connections to structure, etc. shall be submitted to engineer for review. 6. Drawing 15505; at compressor pads, revise support beam locations to occur below isolation pads or provide slab calculations for concentrated load. 7. Drawing 1S505: clarify note 4 with regard to location and length of additional #8 bars. 8. On plans, locate and specify equipment loads assumed in design. 9. Provide bottom flange bracing and bracing calculations for built up roof and floor beams. Also provide bracing to support lateral loads transferred to bottom flange as indicated in Section D drawing 15512. 10. Drawing 15513; slab thickening at rails conflicts with building pile caps. Mr. Nelson In response to your inquiry please note that the requested information is numbered in the same order as your questions. 1) Yes, there are three other pieces of dust producing equipment. The three other units do have integral dust collection systems; however, this area is a small model shop and does not produce great volumes of dust on a daily basis. The current shop operating procedure requires that the dust 'collection devices be cleaned at the end of the day. Therefore, the amount of dust contained in the area does not exceed the UBC table 9a limit. 2) The duct run is terminated with a clean out. Refer to sketch number SK35A053091 enclosed with this memo. 3) The unit has been oversized to accommodate future expansion in this model shop. Therefore, the higher velocities are justified. In addition, with the increased velocities the static pressure loss in the system will be higher than the stated performance reducing the volume of air passed by the fan. Therefore, the actual velocities experienced in the 6" dia duct run will be lower than the 5500 fpm. 4) The attached sheet contains the construction notes that did not fit on the drawing. It is also enclosed with this memo. In response to your other concerns: a) The exhaust duct work is suppling environmental air ventilation from two fume hoods. The hoods to be installed are detailed on sheet 9- 120 -1M500 and provide general ventilation for two work tables in the shop. The shop personnel use these tables to mix paints, clean tools, etc. and thus the expected materials to be ventilated are dilute quantities of paint and solvent fumes. The larger hood (near column E /2) is new but is using an existing fan that was abandoned in place near this shop. The other hood is replacing an existing canopy hood that does not provide proper ventilation. These hoods were designed to the standards defined in Section 1105. Two additional fans are to be installed in an adjacent room to provide general room ventilation. In addition, three other fans are being installed to provide make up air to the two exhaust fans described above and an existing paint booth exhaust fan. b) The exhaust is best defined under the "Class 1" classification as a noncorrosive fume. c) The metal duct runs are greater than 7' from finish grade, are more than 100' from the nearest property line, all the exhaust vents terminate at 10' above the roof height and will be greater than 20' from the nearest building opening (including the make up air supply fans), and is greater than 50' to the nearest building. 5) The two exhaust ducts are described in the above discussion. These are the general exhaust fans for the adjoining room. They are designed to the standards of Section 1104 of the UMC. 6) Motor and fan specifications have been supplied on the drawings for the fans that are being installed on this job. I currently do not have manufacturer's suggested installation instructions for this equipment since the equipment has not yet been purchased. All the fans will be installed outside of the areas they are serving so are not subject to explosion proof classification for the fan motors or electrical services. Plan check number 91 -111 -M After an initial review of subject project, it has been determined that additional information be submitted to complete the plan review. Please address the following comments. 1. Sheet M -1, drawing #109 - 120 -4414 proposed table saw dust collection system. Identify if there are any existing dust producing equipment in this area ? The concern relates to the possible of a potential hazardous occupancy per UBC chapter 9. 2. Provide details on how and /or where the above product conveying duct terminates. 3. The proposed above duct is 6" in diameter and the Torit duct collector provides 1050 cfm, this would calculate at about 5500 fps velocity in the duct. Is this correct and if so qualify the duct for this load ? 4. On sheet M -1, drawing #109 - 120 -4024, out lined construction note "C" says, "see attached sheet ", this sheet has not been provided. Information on the missing sheet should include the following. a. Identify the proposed ventilation systems per the UMC, (appliance vent, environmental air duct, product conveying duct, outside air supply, etc.). b. Classify any product - conveying ducts by providing information on material being vented per UMC section 1107(a) and the UFC if applicable. Gary L. VanD"scn, Mayor Page 2 Any above applicable information should be provided for the two exhaust ducts installation on drawing #120 -202. 6. Provide manufactures listings, specifications, and installation instruction for proposed equipment (fan motors, ducts, etc.). Please confirm you have received these comments by contacting this office and /or submit revisions within ten working days. Feel free to call me if there are any questions, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 431-3670. Sincerely, c. Provide details to show the appropriate separation for vent terminations, exhaust outlets, or outside supply air in compliance with the applicable section in the UMC. Include there location from each other, other equipment, walls, building openings, or property lines.
